I just feel like they want to keep him around you’d have to massively overpay to get him

Unless the team is committed to tanking out the rest of the year, that pick is going to be in the 14-20 range and is so very unlikely to produce a plug-and-play prospect. There's no sense to that philosophy unless the goal is a top-10 selection.

Dobson is heir apparent to the top pair and Mayfield is going to be around for a few years. Pelech and Pulock are the two guys on the back end that the Islanders can commit to moving for a haul to Kickstart their rebuild before their expensive forwards aren't worth their contracts.

Well imo it’s way to risky to be trading 2024 1st it’s the 3rd most valuable asset right now and I think theres better chance right now it’s a top 10 pick then it would be 14-20 pick

TB might have interest in Desharnais, but this is a team strapped to the cap with only $2 remaining. Gonna take some salary management and finessing to make anything work.

I dont know what to tell you if you think that the team that lost to last year's cup champs is a bottom-10 team in the league. Or that you believe that all of Anaheim, Arizona, Buffalo, Calgary, Montreal, Nashville, and Seattle are objectively better than the Edmonton Oilers. Those teams are going to be bona-fide sellers, the Oilers are on one of the biggest PDO coolers ever observed in the sport.

The two best players in the sport sit atop this roster and you would have them sit idle? No thanks.

The Bolts would actually gain cap space by waiving two league minimum players to accommodate for this trade. My guess would be Koepke and Wattson?

They should, being too cowardly to give up future assets is what got us into this hole in the first place

And nobody thought this team would have back to back top 10 picks in 2018 and 2019 after the 2017 run this team continues to surprise me and it’s the NHL every year is different the league is to competitive not to be

"You can't go for it every year"

Some Edmonton Oilers fans deserve the Edmonton Oilers when they're at their worst.

2018 was a surprise, 2019 was not. That roster was an atrocity.

What team retains 1.8+ this years and pays 350k next and 700k buyout the next 2 years for a measly third?

Assuming the deal happens at the midpoint of the season, not the deadline, that third team is taking on a real cap hit of $913k, $350k, and $750k over a three year span.

Since when was less than $2M worth more than a third? The only thing of value that third team is contending with is losing a retention spot for half a season, the buyout is worth less than a league-minimum contract in both years.
