Description
I’m no GM. I don’t know the values, just considering the idea. End of the line, I think the Devils need to go after a potential franchise tender if this team has any hope on winning a cup in the near future. Goaltender carousel is pretty much the Pit of Misery.
Transactions
NJD
  1. Askarov, Yaroslav
  2. Trenin, Yakov
Détails additionnels:
I dont know what the market would be for Trenin.

Nashville looks to be in need of a defense prospect. Figured Casey as a PP1 QB after Jodi hangs them up and Gritsyuk who will be over after next season could be pieces nashville may want in their pool

Lenni Hämeenaho can definitely be a player in this potential trade aswell or even Holtz
NSH
  1. Casey, Seamus [Liste de réserve]
  2. Gritsyuk, Arseni [Liste de réserve]
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2025 (NJD)
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2026 (NJD)
Détails additionnels:
If Askarov plays 40% of the rest of the games in the season the two seconds become either a 2023 or 2024 first round pick (Meier Trade: if devils make it to the ECF SJS receives NJ 1st round pick in 2023)

You actually went out of your way to offer your parts that wouldn't really hurt you to lose? Why would Nashville do this? More quality, less quantity.

Gritsyuk has been a very strong producer in the KHL with 80 points in his first 126 games. Playing top six at SKA at 22 years of age, and he’s confirmed coming over. While Casey has 49 points in 51 games at Michigan at 19 years of age. I don’t think the devils or really any organization wouldn’t hurt losing them. Along with most likely a first round pick

Seamus casey has 25 points in 15 games as a dman in college this year. To put that into perspective, Brock faber (who you claimed was a top end prospect at that time of his trade), had 26 points in 59 games in his college career at that time

They are very different tho, I’m a big Casey fan, always thought he should’ve been a first round pick even before NJ drafted him. Faber is going to be a backbone defense first guy where Casey is going to be your powerplay technician and break out and zone entry defenseman

The point was to illustrate a comparison with a prospect he knows. Similar draft capital, casey lightyears ahead in production.

Being on pace to score 30 points in a full KHL season at 22-23 isn't an impressive feat. This is a dime a dozen player that most teams have some version of. Casey is a little better, but he's an undersized PMD/offensive D with a lot to work on defensively before he turns pro, and his small stature isn't going to help. These aren't premier pieces. Add in a conditional 1st on a guy who isn't NHL ready playing in 40% of the NHL games, and that pick is not converting to a 1st.

In return you're asking for one of the top goaltending prospects in the world that Nashville has no reason to give up on. It's just not an enticing package to make NSH want to move him. If Saros leaves and NSH already traded Askarov for this? That's not a good outcome for them.

No I didn't

But he could at least play defense at the time of his trade. Can't begin to count the number of small offensive D who have flamed out while trying to transition from juniors/college to the pros.

In college? What defensive metrics? Show me. Or do you store those next to where I said Faber was a top end prospect?

I am basing this off the news I saw that Saros is most likely in their long term plans. Nashville should commit to Askarov imo but if that’s not the case then it makes sense for them to trade him. Does Holtz, Casey ,1st (no conditions) make this more realistic?

Yeah that doesn't look great.

Looks like a good offensive PMD at the college level though.

You claimed faber's value in July 2022 was more than Holtz or Mercer is now. Considering Holtz has been a consensus top 25-50 prospect and Mercer a quality top 6 player already at 21, for a prospect to be more valuable than them he'd clearly have to be a top end prospect.

These were casey's metrics as a freshman last year, and I'll provide a few other prospects for context

His 'overall' score is literally the best in the league what does it matter that his defense is lower? He's above average defensively!

And this is from his freshman year!

Nashville was willing to trade Askarov+ for MTL 2023 1st (5th overall). If they trade him, it'll be for a high end prospect. I can't see them trade him for multiple pieces.

Not touching the value of the trade, you should not expect Askarov to step right in as your NHL starter in a year you’re trying to contend. He’s only ever played one NHL game. It only hurts you to rush him into the big leagues

He’s worth a shot. It’s not like he’s coming straight from Juniors he’s played KHL, and has looked good in the AHL. Goalies development are the farthest from linear and they tend to never resemble each other’s growth.

1. The difference between juniors and college is huge.
2. The 'smallish' dmen that have put up offense like this are only guys like Quinn, Makar, Fox...(guys like Schultz, Krug, Benning, Butcher were significant step behind in production)
