Well there are teams out there who will see the prices rising and jump on it so they dont miss out. If a team sees they could get a top 10 or 12 pick and more for essentially 6 years of less than 2 mil per of dead money, they will take it before another team does.

Oilers are desperate to make Mcdavid and Draisaitl happy. Look at their president and coach pickups. It's a huge risk but the other option is to be terrible and risk both players not signing back because they don't see a future of winning. That's not a great way to run a hockey team but they have already gone down that path.

He is not a top ten rd, saros has been arguably the most consistent goalie for 5 years.

Marner runs the power play. Bouchard is out there to hand it off to mcdavid so he can run it. Not my issue if you want to keep the status quo and be back in the lottery for years when Mcdavid and Drasaitl leave.

Regarding the conversation happening. Saros is probably the best goalie in the NHL on a consistent basis (both NY teams might disagree with a fair argument). He might be having a bad year but he is worth more than a defenseman. Bouchard + a pick would be sufficient for Saros. It would also take multiple 1sts to trade Campbell.
Marleau cost Tor a 1st (13 overall) and he was a 1 year contract of 6.5MM. Campbell is 4 years of 5MM. He takes a lot to move.

A real trade would be:
To Edm: Saros, 4th
To Nash: Campbell, 1st, 1st, 2nd, Bouchard, 2nd
