Dont know how much value schmidt has, he has only 1 pt in 14 games and is getting 5.9mil. His offense has really died the past 2 years and hes still got 2 yrs left

Heinola is still just 22 but hes not the shiney prospect he once was (I dont even know if hes still in NAMerica) and the 3rd being in 2025 and not 2024 devalues it.

I dont think its in the ballpark for both those players, especially one with retention

No thanks… while I’d love to get rid of Schmidt, neither of the 2 players from CGY improve our D enough to justify the cost, and Zad is totally irrelevant for WPG with our LHD depth,

I don't think Tanev is the upgrade to our RD chart that people seem to think he is. From what I've seen so far Schmidt is playing way better defensively (yes I know that's mostly because of Samberg but still). I know Schmidt has an anchor of a contract but he's providing consistently solid defence. I think the Jets are better off keeping him and buying him out in the summer if they're sure they have a better guy for next year.

Is there something I'm not seeing with Tanev?

P.S. I think Gus is doing a damn good job so far, no need to bring in Maroon imo.

I'm not high on either of the players coming back so I don't really want to do this, it would be a lateral move.

Also, like it or not, I think we're stuck with Schmidt until the summer when we can buy him out. He has a M-NTC which has been alleged to have been used in the past to veto a trade. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if Calgary isn't on his list because they weren't supposed to be bad going into this season. If we can move him, and bring back an RHD that can actually make a difference, that would be huge for the Jets playoff outlook.
