Good teams don't need him and bad -- er, "rebuilding" -- teams won't do you a favor by taking him off your hands without an incentive. Two third-round picks aren't a very compelling incentive, especially to a team that already has three of them in the 2024 draft, so Anaheim wouldn't take that offer even without having to lose Ilya Lyubushkin (never mind the 50% retention). Moreover, his cap hit excludes all but about 6 teams unless the other team sends someone back.

If you're going to dump Klingberg because he just won't pan out, waiting for the trade deadline doesn't make much sense because by then it'll probably be too late. And most teams are set with their current lineups, so it's going to take an appealing offer to get him off your books.
