If any center is going to go back in a McDavid trade, Edmonton is going to want either Zibanejad or Chytil. Zibanejad gives them a top line player, Chytil gives them a reasonable cap hit for an up and coming player. NYR are going to be stuck with Trocheck. Chytil will be most likely due to his lack of a NMC.

Agreed - I don't think EDM is going to have any interest in Trocheck or Goodrow in a deal. Most likely would be Chytil, Miller/Lindgren, Kakko, a prospect, and the firsts.

Only way this happens is McD only wants to be a Ranger! I see a deal of Chytil, Miller, Kakko and firsts!

Goodrow would HAVE to be included simply to make the cap work. Probably have to sub Garand for Sykora due to Edmontons goalie woes. They still probably don't do it without one of Othmann/Perrault

Trocheck gives nothing for Oilers.
Goodrow is negative value.

If both added for cap matching reasons, it would leave Oilers on hook for a lot of money for players, they dont need/want and cannot really move further for more assets.

Lindgren is ok-ish.

I'm actually a fan of both Trocheck and Sykora and it isn't even close for me. Most others teams around the league would be able to offer a better package and some could do it without sending cap dumps in return. For me, any McDavid to NYR trade would have to start with Schneider and build from there.

For 2023 to make the trade realistic the headliners would be McDavid for Shesterkin, but neither team has a reason for the trade. The Oilers can find a cheaper option at goalie and the NYR doesn't have a good replacement the cap notwithstanding.
