How does this not help the Wild? Improvement in your two weakest areas. You don't have a top 50 defenseman and your goalies blow. You're getting back a top 10 goalie, top 50 defenseman and a top 100 forward. All for a top 20 forward. The Bruins get a boost to their wing core and they don't have to give up Potrois, Lysell, Lohrei or a draft pick. Marchand is at the end of his career. Kaprizov takes his place long term. Boston has plenty of depth at D. Plus the money plays out. I guess I need help understanding how either team would hate this move. I guess educate please!
Well, for starters.
1) Minnesota's lone franchise level player in its entire history isn't available.
That package there on Boston's end doesn't gets you Kaprizov alone, let alone make Minnesota ADD. It's not a question of value. Kaprizov is arguably the best left wing in the world, did you actually think he'd be available?
2) The drop off between Kaprizov to DeBrusk puts Minnesota straight into the gutter. And perhaps you haven't heard, but they ain't rebuilding Chief. So moving their single greatest core player, ISN'T a option.
Teams add AROUND their best player, when trying to compete. They don't move them if they're goal is to win.
3) Minnesota’s goalie tandem doesn't blow.
IT'S DEFENSE DOES.
Gustavsson literally had the 2nd best save percentage in the entire league last season behind only Ullmark. He's had a rough start to the year, sure. But the defense in front of him, both at the blue line and fowards positions, have been mind-numbingly atrocious. So while he does need to turn it around, putting the blame on him or Fleury is ill advised.
Brodin hasn't looked himself.
Faber has been a stud, despite being a ROOKIE, but is on a island alone. He's been Minnesota's best defenseman by far this year, but there’s only so much one player can do by themselves.
Middleton is a 3rd pairing caliber defenseman who typically plays in Minnesota's top-4 because of his size and physicality, but his warts are being laid bare because they're usually covered up by Spurgeon. Who's been out all year.
So yeah, Minnesota's best defenseman and team Captain has been out all year. So there's that.
Goligoski is cooked, but he's on LTIR anyway.
Merrill has been horrible, I don't think he could get traded for future considerations at this point either.
Addison is a defensive black hole.
Mermis has been solid. But he's a career Ahl'er.
Hunt might stick, but he's played less than 10 NHL games to date. He's not Faber, so expecting a rookie to do much is another matter.
4) TL;DR version....
This only makes Minnesota much, much worse. Yes, they shore up their deficiencies. But lose the one thing that truly makes them competitive in the process.
It's a hard NO from Minnesota.
Edit: And by the way, Minnesota has at least THREE top 50 defenseman. Brodin, who's typically and arguably the best shutdown defenseman in the league. Spurgeon, who literally was a top 10 Norris finalist last season. And Faber, who has looked like a top 25 defenseman since turning pro last year.
