Description
Lars Eller is the only forward making over $1M without any kind of NTC/NMC

Friedman sort of suggested this morning that things clearly aren't going well for the Flames which may force them to make changes (or players to ask for a trade).

I'm not sure what Dube's value would be, or if they'd trade him but to me he should be a player Dubas should target.

Throwing in POJ as he's younger and if the flames would sell off assets, i'd assume that Hanifin and Z would be two guys to go so this could be a fill in for the time.

If the Flames sell off they should be looking for players with team control for an extended period of time. I like POJ but similarly to Sharengovich this season his UFA eligible year is fast approaching and if he wants to negotiate a contract that walks him to UFA he's out of town in just a couple years. Flames should be aiming for NHL ready prospects that are 19 - 23 ish with a ton of team control so they can get some continuity in the organization. Poulin or Pickering type guys.

Maybe, depends what you think of POJ and whether hes a cheap resign for multiple years. Also Eller just signed for 2 yrs, and thats a pure dump on CGY to take him, when theyre trying to move $. But its real close and an intriguing idea. But Dube might get a better offer

Throw in Poulin, who looks to be going nowehere in PITTS and maybe CGY likes POJ, Poulin and the 3rd (TWO drafts away), or change the 3rd to a 2024 2nd

The trade seems fair enough I think the pick should be a 2nd but, I could be putting too high of a value on Dubé since I'm a fan

Curious, but why would they want players with term control? it's not a terrible thought I suppose given the tightness of cap across the NHL right now. I'd assume that the flames would retain on Lindholm/Tanev/Hanifin given they'd probably have the larger AAV's of players traded + in their final year so retention would fall off in the summer.

I'm not opposed to Poulin (would not trade Pickering for Dube, I don't think that's worth it. Eller would have to go back though, pens simply don't have the cap space. I also wouldn't do POJ + Poulin + a pick + Eller, that's too much.

Because if the Flames are selling off pieces which is the only scenario they would be moving Dube, Hanifin, Lindholm,, Tanev etc. then they are not looking to be anywhere near the playoffs this season or next. If there are going to be a couple dark years ahead then they should be aiming to get guys who they can have on contract through the rebuilding years and be at their primes when the team looks to compete. Poulin/Pickering type contracts have those players in Calgary until at least 2027 - 2028 ish when they are 26 - 28 which would be ideal in my mind.

Makes sense. IMO you can get those types of contracts from the guys like Hanifin/Lindholm. Top end talent that will net that return. I don't watch a ton of flames hockey obviously, but feel like Dube is a middle/bottom six guy. So maybe a Poulin makes sense, but again Eller would have to come as well.
