Hardly a fair comparison. Seth jones was 25? at the time and Chicago was not in a rebuild mode as they still had Kane and Toews and were going for a cup (whether right or wrong is up for personal debate).
Vancouver is in no way shape or form in any position to be giving up a package like that for those two players.
Just want to clarify Blackhawks:
- 55 points in 56 games in the 2021 season.
- 72 points in 70 games in 2019/20 season.
- 84 points in 82 games in the 2018/19 season.
- 76 points in 82 games in the 2017/18 season.
you said name a borderline rebuilding team. I think we've found a team that meets that definition. Jones may have been younger, but Hawks paid way more than I proposed in this trade and he needed to be resigned. Weegar is locked up to a reasonable contract.
Further, whether you like it or not, Canucks are going for it and at least they look to be on the upswing, unlike the Hawks. The Canucks realistically have a 3-4 year window which is Demko/Hughes contracts.
Like you can say, I'd rather keep the prospect and not rush it. That's a valid opinion. Who's to say, who is right? But if the Canucks want to make a win-now move that makes them a cup contender, this does it. The value clearly is reasonable based on past comps.
Like I love Willander and how he looks so far this season (although I wish we had taken Benson). But prospects miss all the time. I wish we'd traded Juolevi 3 games into his first season, but we didn't. There's always pros and cons.
