Canucks would 100% want a player like Suzuki in return for Petey if it somehow went the PLD route. That is the Canucks way to only think about the present.

If NYR sells on Laffy that is about as much as they can expect value wise. And if they do go this route I hope they can make him the player he was suppose to be.

how? Suzuki is the only player in the future core that was dealt. And Petterson comes in. No Caufield, Hutson, Guhle, Slaf, Dach, Newhook or Reinbacher are dealt . Thats the actual core and with Petterson and Laffy, youre pretty much done rebuilding

Not to mention the picks you can acquire for Monahan, Matheson, Xhekaj, etc. If they really want a 1st rounder in 2024 or 2025, they could easily move up for one using the quantity of 2nd and 3rd round pick and middling prospects

This is why i dont undertsand why they gave Hughes the C if they arent sure Petey will resign. Now they are forced to acquire more NHL ready players for the 4-5 years Hughes has left instead of going scorched earth and doing a full blown rebuild with pieces from a Petey and Hughes trade. Canucks could get like 5 1st round picks and good prospects in total for the both of them.

2025 is still likely a top 10 pick and Suzuki for EP, it's a hell of a haul got Van but honestly wasn't the trade that's the worst one.

The worst one was the NYR trade. Habs 2024 first rounder is far more valuable then Laff as it's likely a top 5 pick.

With EP, the Habs are nowhere near a top 10 pick, nevermind a top 5 pick. That top 6 is quite strong, and that top 4 defence is solid. Allen would have to have a historically bad year for that Habs team to be bottom 5

Welcome to the life of a Canucks fan. All we want is hope...

They could have done this with other assets earlier to build a solid group around Petey and Hughes, but didn't. Now we're getting to the point where they may be essentially forced to by Petey when he leaves (I've resigned myself to it...he isn't stupid), and they will probably will still scrap and claw to avoid the dreaded word - "rebuild".
