Is this a joke? You'd have to PAY the Sharks to take Grzelcyk.

He's a decent player but the Sharks have way too many LD on their roster and this is a horrible overpay for him. Also, idk if you knew but the Sharks are in a rebuild, why would they get rid of 2nd rounders?

This is as bad a take as the original trade. I agree that Grzelcyk isn’t worth the package they outlined, but San Jose’s defense is arguably the worst in the league (by design?) and you really lack anybody who has competence carrying the puck.

Grzelcyk is a solid player who fits your system and has a tie to yiur coach. Probably worth a late 2nd or a high third at most.

Once you get to that range in the draft, you are talking about flyers. I’m fine letting him play this year and sign somewhere else next year depending on the caliber of an offer. Forbort will get hurt and Lohrei will play, which is the primary reason why some Boston fans want to trade Grzelcyk.

he doesn't help the Sharks at all. Period. They're not trying to be competitive and he doesn't fit their timeline so it's a non starter. Especially for two 2nds, one being a conditional 1st (and the other being likely 33-38 overall)

They have 11 D-men still up in the NHL (two Injured and one non-roster injury) and ONE that doesn't need to clear waivers and that's Thrun, whos probably the most deserving of staying up. It literally makes no sense for SJ from a logistical and roster standpoint, and a huge overpay to add to that.

I find the timeline argument as rationalization. You have quite a few players that don’t fit your timeline. He’d bring stability to atleast one of 6 spots on the backline. Probably not enough to make you win, but likely enough to help some of the younger guard develop.

You had the worst defense in the league and currently don’t have a defenseman adept at getting the puck out of the d zone. That goes beyond the talent shortcomings that will likely make you one of the bottom 2 teams in the league. That’s a structural problem that impacts development. It’s difficult to assess if anyone on your back line is NHL caliber outside of those who have proven it in the past.

Like I said, I believe we will get a high 3rd for him unless we retain. don’t know if I’d trade him for a high third
