If Calgary was to trade for Nylander, it would to play him with Lindholm. So trading Lindholm for Nylander doesn't make sense

That would make sense but what if contract talks stall? They would be in the same boat as Toronto with Nylander, do you really want to lose him for nothing?

This scenario is going off the idea that Calgary can’t get the Lindholm contract to work and Toronto not being able to afford Nylander.
I saw the SDPN clip where Steve said to trade Nylander if they aren’t in a comfortable playoff spot.

If we don't come to a deal by TDL(which it sounds like a contract will come in the next week) they should trade him for picks/prospects/young players

If this is a deadline deal, which teams are playoff bound? If Columbus is out of the playoffs, I don't think it makes sense for them to trade a guy who's signed for 2 years for a rental. If Toronto is in, I don't think Nylander for Provorov gets them closer to winning the cup this year. Maybe Calgary does it if they think they can sign Nylander but not Lindholm, but they'd need to have $2M in cap space, so they can probably only do it if somebody's on LTIR for the remainder of the regular season.

If Lindholm doesn't stay Calgary is going to need a 1st line center a lot more than a Nylander. Besides without Lindholm to play with there'd be zero chance Nylander would extend in Calgary.
