Détails additionnels:
Every indication from Petey's camp is that they wont commit long term to the Nucks and are using this season as a final barometer. Elias is not morality obligated to sign long term with an eternally terrible team.

  1. Pettersson, Elias [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
Habs will be spinning their wheels with their lineup and need to go after an impact player in the offseason when they'll be drafting 5-10OA in 2024. All these picks being acquired in 2025 shows they are targeting something relatively big before then. They still have 9 picks AFTER this trade in 2025 including 6 in the first 4 rounds.

NGL jaw dropped seeing the price. IK its expensive, but damn. Maybe just maybe Mailloux and a 2nd instead of Reinbacher?

EDIT: I ran it in the simulator, and it took Newhook on top of your package to make it work

Petey isnt as young as people think but he's still in his prime years and a 100 point player without the health issues of Eichel.
The price will be higher than Vegas paid while Mtl is one of the few teams that can pay it outside maybe Buffalo, Carolina and Vegas cause Vegas.

Edit: I'd add Newhook. Pay for quality! The Habs have enough for the same type of players.

If Petey won’t sign long term in Vancouver what makes you so sure he would with a much worse team in Montreal?

If Vancouver got this type of package, it would solve their Top 4 RD and middle six C issues immediately and TWO Firsts to play with. I’ve never seen a package like this exist for any player with ~1.5 YRs of control left (won’t be traded unless VAN falls out of the playoff race) and I’d be very surprised if they secured that return.

Cause Montreal is going in a much better direction then Vancouver, Vancouver has one of the worst prospect pools with a less then stellar looking future in general, while Montreal has a decent pool with much more improvement from players on the roster on the horizon. Also I would 100% take the current Montreal roster over the current Vancouver roster without Pettersson.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that he is sure fire to want to go to Montreal, but there are definitely reasons why Montreal would be much better for a player that is on the early side of his prime.

The current Montreal roster is far worse than the current Vancouver roster, even without Pettersson

Better prospect pool, better coached, better managed, better city to play in, better history, much much more decorated, closer to home... The only thing Vancouver has on MTL is they've started their rebuild earlier lol

We’re really saying closer to home for a player from Europe? Are the Habs really better managed/coached? Is Montreal really a better city to play in than Vancouver?

Canucks have better players, a strong history with Swedish players, a better city to play and live in, and he wouldn’t be criticized for not being able to speak French

And, its fantasy. No one is sure of anything in here except that the Canucks are horrific.

Unpopular opinion: Pettersson aint worth it, you dont win cups with soft players like him. I would rather pay that price for an actual difference maker.

Look at the turnover from the coaching situation, it's ridiculous. Like how is that even something you are debating this with how we saw how badly the Vancouver management screwed over Bruce. As well as completely mismanaging the Horvat situation. Even just the vibes of the team/enjoyment of playing for the team are way in Montreal's favour, on one hand you have a team that has JT Miller who is one of the most outwardly toxic players in the game, with the only person that was keeping him in check being traded away. On the other you have a team of young guys being coached by a legend of the game as a coach who has been loved by the players. It is true that he doesn't speak french, but you know who also doesn't speak french? Caufield, and it is unanimous love that he gets from the fanbase. In terms of your players, you have Hughes and Miller, that is your entire team that isn't Pettersson (Andrei Kuzmenko's regression from a 27.4% shooting% will be interesting to watch, it's like the Norris situation on steroids) and there is almost no one coming up the pipeline, as Vancouver has a unanimously garbage prospect pool.

The Bruce situation was bad I’ll give you that, but apart from that the new management has been pretty good. Maybe they should have moved Miller instead of giving him his extension, but they didn’t want to do a full rebuild so I understand keeping him

Management did not mishandle the Horvat situation. He was asking for too much money and they got a great return for him rather than giving him the terrible contract the Islanders gave him. And many of Miller’s past and present teammates and coaches have talked about how he’s a great teammate/person and how he’s a great leader (something that nobody ever did with Horvat). Miller isn’t toxic at all. Yes he can rub people the wrong way sometimes, but he’s a great leader and teammate

The Canucks coaching staff also features legends of the game with the Sedins and Gonchar, and Adam Foote is on the staff as well

Miller and Hughes are better than any player currently on Montreal. Kuzmenko, Boeser, Garland, Hronek are better than everyone apart from Suzuki and Caufield. Mikheyev, Beauvillier, and Cole are better than everyone on the Habs part from Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, and Matheson. Demko is way better than Montembeault/Allen. The Habs have Josh Anderson and Sean Monahan in their top 6, and David Savard on their top pair, yet you think they have a better roster than the Canucks?

Imagine thinking the Canucks are better managed than the the Canadiens at this point. The Canucks have made the playoffs exactly once in the last 8 years and have routinely traded away draft picks to correct bad signings and trades. The 3rd to give away Pearson for one. Lets just look at that one. Pearson cost them Gudbranson. Gudbranson cost us a 2nd, 4th and McCann. This trade was 3rd and Pearson. So for a back up Goalie it cost the Nucks a 1st (Mccann) a 2nd, a 3rd and a 4th. I wonder why they've made the playoffs once in the past decade.

If you wanna talk about bad management, let’s talk about the team that traded a 1st + 2nd for a mediocre 3C in Dvorak

The team that traded Max Domi PLUS a pick for Josh Anderson, then signed him to a god awful contract, then reportedly turned down a 1st round pick to get out of that contract

The team that traded a 1st + early 2nd for a player that couldn’t even produce in Colorado’s top 6

The team that has the awful contracts of Anderson, Gallagher, Armia, Savard, Dvorak, and Allen

The team that gave a past his prime Carey Price 8x10.5 when he was a league average goalie at best and got bailed out by him having to LTIRetire

The team that took Slafkovsky 1OA

The team that took Kotkaniemi 3OA just to let him walk after his ELC

The team that took Logan Mailloux 1st round

Now that’s a poorly managed team
