Come on now. I'm only having fun, but you have to admit that this would be an amazing offer if Petey doesn't want to sign. It's highly unlikely, I know. Still, it's being reported that his decision depends on team success so it's not impossible.

Canucks easily decline. A future 1st and Engstrom doesn't bridge the gap between Pettersson and Suzuki.

There is a significant difference between Pettersson and Suzuki. One is a 100 point Selke caliber top 10 C, another is a high end 2C who puts up 70 points and mid defense

Suzuki is a good start, but you need to add a lot more

Pettersson wouldn’t do 80 points playing for the Habs
Yes he is better but those trades are just annoying since there’s zero chance it will happens

And MTL wouldn’t trade their captain with all that future just to upgrade a little bit down the middle

His analytics suggests otherwise. He’d make Caufield a 50 goal scorer

Caufield was on pace for 45+ already lmao. Seriously though, in the event where Pettersson does not want to sign a contract, I don't see how Vancouver gets more than what I offered. You can swap Engstrom/1st for equal value pieces, idc. Realistically if you're going to lose him and you can get a low end 1C / high end 2C ++, it's a pretty solid return. I don't think many teams would offer a package around a player who's as good and young as Suzuki.

If Petey wants to sign a contract then it's all irrelevant anyway, ge'll stay.

Point is moot, Habs won’t trade their captain who is locked up for under 8 long term.
Even with Pettersson being an elite talent the salary cap ramifications along with the disruption trading such a well liked leader would cause is not worth the price of admission.

He may not be quite at the elite level that Pettersson is but he is a true #1c in the best hockey league in the world and was the youngest captain in Habs history… not sure what your definition of “special” is but I believe he meets the criteria.
