Détails additionnels:
This trade makes Dallas cap compliant while giving them a solid D to round out their top 4. They really need a good top 4 D and this is a way of doing that and getting the money to work.

Stankoven is a great prospect but he doesn't fit the normally mold of players that Jim Nill likes and Dallas is very strong upfront so it's dealing from a position of strength.

Dallas also moves off of the Faska contract which will help their cap. Roberson is united with his brother and that might help him. Holmberg can jump in for Faska and be a solid bottom 6 guys.

Dallas also gets a 1st out of this (moving up 30 spots).

2 rookies as your #2 and 3 center is a lot to ask. Why do people not realize Kampf is the 3C? Shutdown Center takes almost all the d-zone faceoffs, can't do that with Reaves on his wing and 4th line ice-time.

I think both SEA and TML would say no. SEA not going to give up on Wright most likely. And are we taking Faksa as a punishment? His contract for 20 points is horrible. As much as I like Oleksiak he does not fit TML either. If we lose Brodie it has to be a for a very good defender that can play with Rielly.

It's not us, the leafs bottom 6 guys just make no sense.

None of Knies/Kampf/Reaves can play on the same line but two will have to.

Why isn't Oleksiak a fit?

And yes on Faska. I think it's worth it overall to get Stankoven

Liljegren is not ready for top pair minutes. It makes no sense to move McCabe down when he is a perfectly fine 2nd pair D. To move Brodie now it has to be for a partner for Rielly.

Oleksiak and Klingberg were very elite when playing together. Easily a top-10 pairing in the league back in 2020-21

F4ogr5zXwAM7rpH?format=jpg&name=medium

If they can even somewhat replicate that they can be a very high end second pairing.

Rielly/Lili was also a great pairing when they played together last year. I think the Leafs should start the season with them. I definitely wouldn't want to go into the playoffs tomorrow with this D but I think it has lots of potential. Keep in mind that we can always make a move at the deadline and if Timmins or Lili aren't doing well they can be replaced.

Gio could also do well with load management and both Oleksiak and McCabe have played a bunch on the right side and can get time with Rielly to see if there is chemistry.

Why? The have 8 NHL level D so they are dealing from a position of strength.

They have the cap space to resign Lili at 8x$10M if they wanted. Defintely something lower AAV they can do.

They also don't have any stars or any elite scorers. I assume there is some ownership pressure to try and get a star given they are in one rumours for most big names like Hanafin/Karlsson/etc. when they come up. .

Those rumours are drummed up by the selling team to increase the trade offers from elsewhere. We're not looking to pay offense only wingers like Nylander 10 mil a year. Hakstol would end up benching him 15 games in lol.

Not that Nylander isnt good, im just saying its not a good fit for the organization and the current coach.

Also where is that goalie at you traded for Driedger? Pretty sure he can't go to AHL, so if you put him on taxi squad he is claimed om waivers.

Not much thought about Seattle's cap. Big no anyway from Seattle for one year of Nylander.
More nonsense that "Seattle has cap". Then they can wait till next year. By the way Leafs have cap next year too. Can't image any team paying Nylander 10m
Saying Seattle don't have elite scorers....foolish. Didn't McCann score 40 goals like Nylander did last season. Seattle scored more goals than the Leafs last season.

How is there not much thought about Seattle's cap? This deal saves them cap space. Drieger is a dead $2.5M the Leafs have to bury in the minors.

Also McCann never had more than 27 before last season and his shooting % went from 13% to 19% last year (accounts perfectly for the 50% increase in goals). For reference Matthews who is likely the best shooter in the league shoots at about 15%, Ovi has never shot above 15.4% and averages 14% through his career. So unless you think McCann suddenly turned into the top shooter in the league he'll be back to 25-30 goals and 50-60 points next year.

For more context Nylander's shooting percentage the last three years is 12.8%, 13.3% and 13.7% so his 40 goals is sustainable.

Also this idea of trading for 1 year is BS, teams make these trades because it massively increases their chances of resigning the player or they already know they can get an extension. Horvat is essentially a high end 2C had a career year at 70 points last year and was traded for a middle 6 winger, 1st and arguably the Islander's top prospect (I know Raty isn't in the same world as Wright but he's ranked around 50-60th in prospect ranking and Wright is about 10-15). Point being Nylander is a better player and this deal isn't for a crazy amount more.

In the minors, why can't he be there? He was there all of last year and doesn't have a NMC

Absolute no from Dallas. Stankoven is not getting traded, 1st is nice and all, but the rest isn’t needed (Brodie doesn’t move the needle majorly on our d core).

As of right now it’s either Hakanpaa or Lundkvist, which is not great, but if they’re moving a league wide top prospect, what they receive better be miles better than Brodie. Stankoven nets a top pair defensemen easily if they were to trade him (which I don’t see happening).

Chris Tanev is a way better option, as he’s cheaper, better, a righty (which is something Dallas much prefers compared to a lefty), and will not cost Stankoven to get. He’s the guy I’d go for.

Brodie was literally the best DFD last year.

Also if you just wanted Brodie you'd get him for a 2nd, you just can't afford the cap. He likely cheaper than Tanev only cause the leafs need the cap space.
