No we don't. IF Joseph is still on the roster in the 2024-25 season we'll have the cap room for him.

We won't be trading him if he isn't moved this summer. So he could bounce back and be well worth a 3rd rounder.

I don't want Nashville gambling on that, I don't think we should pay for someone we don't have a need for imo

Too be fair I don't know much about Nashville's situation so I don't overly blame you. He would need to be moved this summer with a sweetener to clear cap space for Pinto. But if he isn't the one being moved this summer and it's someone else we should have the cap space to keep him around.

This ACGM is not gambling because it assumes that Joseph has bounced back to 2021-22 form and has now positive value again. In that case, don’t think the Sens would want to trade a good 3rd liner and top PKer for a pick then. If they do, they’d be looking for a similar player

I don't think anyone is willing to pay positive assets for a player making 3m who's only specialty is to be good on the PK and mediocre in the bottom 6. Those kinds of players are literally everywhere for cheaper. The ACGM is gambling considering he wasn't that good in 2021-22 aside form a very very short sample size of 11 games that he likely does not replicate.

If he somehow manages to garner any positive value above a late pick then I'll eat my words.

He’s not only good on the PK (where he consistently had elite metrics). He’s a top skater, good on the forecheck, good defensively and can chip in offensively. He had 30 ES + PK points in 69 games in 2021-22. That kind of production is really good at 2.95 AAV when it’s ES + PK

The stretch that you mention… if he could do that on a longer sample size, he’d be worth a LOT MORE than a 3rd round pick, particularly considering a low AAV

3rd liners are not supposed to be anything close to PPG

Oh and he garnered positive value just a bit more than one year ago, but it’s ok you don’t have to eat anything

Correct, then he fell down to Earth. Saying he's a top skater and forechecker would be the biggest reach known to man. Like I said, these kinds of players are available everywhere especially in the bargain bin during FA. No need to pay positives for one making 3m who clearly just isn't worth that.

If you want to cling onto that one season that again, he definitely doesn't replicate then be my guest.

Top skater and good forechecker is a stretch?

Very much so. He's average across the board and his only 'cling to fame' is shining on a PK unit that isn't that good and an overachieved season 2 years ago.

Why anyone would pay for that, I'm still confused about.

You said “ Saying he's a top skater and forechecker would be the biggest reach known to man.”

But when you watch him play he’s always one of the fastest skaters on the ice…

Too bad he can’t translate that to his production
