He's 24 and has scored at a point per game pace since entering the league. As a Boston fan, I would do that trade. Franchise player for franchise player.

McAvoy is probably the 6th best defenseman in the league and signed long term. Pettersson is great, but probably the 18th-20th best C in the league. McAvoy is more valuable to the team than Pettersson would be, not worth sending him AND a first for a player we would need to then negotiate with

Bruins already have a capable 1D in Lindholm. Getting a franchise center who is still under team control, who scores at a point per game pace and then to lock him up until he is 32, I think is more valuable than McAvoy. Pettersson is severly underrated in my opinion. Especially for a team that is going to roll out Zacha and Coyle as 1C and 2C next year. The Bruins will be going after guys like Lindholm and Scheifele and most likely SEVERLY overpaying them, especially after Horvats deal last year. I'd gladly trade for Pettersson and give him $11m-$12m for 8 years instead of the $9m Lindholm is going to get.

Bruins don't have any close to a 1C in the foreseeable future, they're going to have to trade someone who's probably seen as too valuable to this team to get one.
