Description
reminiscing a nostalgic season as a leafs fan (ignore the playoffs LOL)
crazy how a good chunk of the bottom six are on their way out of the NHL (kapanen, johnsson, gauthier) and how we played with a swiss cheese blue line the entire time minus rielly and muzzin
i miss the matthews, tavares, kadri centre depth :/

yea compared with this year's team, they're not better but there's just so much nostalgia looking back as we thought with tavares joining, we were going to the promised land (LOL not)

I think Tavares signing wasn't the issue, but how Dubas managed the Marner situation and the lack of term on Matthews was

funny how i was quite a dubas fan during his time but now looking at it retrospectively, he was quite a mid GM. he did make up his mistakes in his last two seasons but the first season bonkers cost too much.

(i rather not rage over thinking what if matthews signed for 8 x 9, marner 8 x 8, and nylander 8 x 7, plus the depth we would have with that cap space)

I don't mind Matthews signing for 11.6 but it was rather that it was for 5 years instead of 8... Marner should have signed for 8x8 as well

I like Dubas and the moves he made with the limited cap... But the issue with him was that he was the reason what the cap was so limited

The real issue was Dubass gave everyone including the Zamboni driver a NTC or NMC contract. Who gives Kerfoot, Holl, Simmonds, Brodie and Jarnkrok to name a few that type of option as a player.

Matthews and Marner signing for anything under 10 is bonkers. Tavares contract is what killed them. you take him off the team and add a 5 million $ foward and a 5.5 mil $ dman, this team would be much better off than that atrocious deal. Would have been nice to get AM34 and Marner at 8 years for the money theyre being paid, but the players make way more money if they do it the way they are going to do it

Yeah, Marner and Matthews being the only players in NHL history to sign for 10+ million for less then 7 seasons was pretty bad on Dubas's part. At the end of the day, this whole core-4 things was on Dubas for betting on an external factor (cap going up) which he had no control over. Now we have this whole Matthews 3-5 year max term BS lmao
