Petterson

Description
Hopefully, this lineup/cap structure looks something similar to what the start of next year looks like. The Habs should move out the final few vets, which if they are healthy should have solid value with retention and/or because the cap went up. Keep Matheson and Anderson for now. Gally is unmovable, Armia needs to go so the Habs should buy him out to save assets.

It doesn’t have to be Petterson, but a player like that via trade using the surplus of assets the Habs have is what they should/will try to do. If something like this happens, I think MTL has everything they need in the system to win the Stanley Cup in a few years, except for a top goalie but they can get a solid one via trade if Monty or others don’t work out.

Hawks decline. They aren't spending a 3rd for a one year rental of Allen. If Hawks want a veteran G, they'll sign one in free agency. Or they'd take Allen at his full cap hit along with Montreal's '25 2nd for F/C.

Then they can add more or add different players. They just need to use their surplus of good young players to get a great one.

No team is hoping to get a bunch of good pieces in return for a great one. VAN has no reason to move Pettersson, if they did they’d want great assets back, not a bunch of good. This isn’t close to value

It’d be like someone suggesting MTL trades Suzuki or Caufield for a bunch of things valued around a late first/early 2nd. Even if it’s a bunch of pieces, that just isn’t going to cut it

Eichel was moved for just good pieces. Stone. Seguin back in the day, etc. Also the Habs first will be around 6th overall. It’s also not about Petterson specifically.

Okay then they can trade him to another team for a 5th or something, or keep him. It’s not about the Hawks necessarily.

I read the description. If you think you’re getting a player of Pettersson’s caliber for that package, prepare to be disappointed. None of these trades are accepted. Typical Habs post. All your players are valuable, but you expect to acquire star players for cheap

You are acting like there is no value in the pieces in the trade. Also, this isn’t the point of the post. MTL can add in different players or picks to make it work. Just use the surplus of assets to get a star, not necessarily Petterson. Eichel was traded for just good pieces, same with Stone, Tkachuk, etc. It happens.

That’s terrible justification…. Taylor Hall was traded for a 1st before. He just got traded for peanuts, and he is still a significantly better player than Savard

Chairot went for a first plus. If Savard is healthy, he’s a right shot vet d with an extra year, teams will be interested. Maybe they get a second which is fine. Maybe they have to retain to up the offers which is also fine.

The bare minimum to even start negotiations for Petey would be slafkovsky, one of guhle or reinbacher and both of those 1st rounders. Even then probably not enough.

That’s what players like Eichel, Stone and Tkachuk went for?

Hawks have 4 goalies on professional contracts. They don't need Allen. Not even at 50%. Send a 3rd with Allen at 50% and sure.

We know he can at the right cap hit,its been proven.
TBL paid that too for him to be a 6/7th D but mostly they paid so MTL among others Couldnt.
It was a smart call as MTL with Savard vs TBL atleast makes that series close as TBL smoked us due to our lack of quality depth(Merril was our Savard lol)

But my point is Savard the way he's played as of late at 1.75m with RS
Someone will pay a 1st even if its just to make sure other teams cant have him.
Its why Tomas Tatar's got so much from VGK their 1st year in the league.
They didnt want PIT or STL to have him and it was the right call in the end.

Also i feel while this may be fair-ish
I'd rather keep the top 10 pick and Beck
Besides the way CGY is going thats possibly 2 top 10 picks

More important my Screensaver is Suzuki putting Petterson down hard into the ice when Petterson went through Center Ice with His Head Down that Covid Year where we played Canadian Teams only and MTL lead by Toffoli lit VAN up hard. Suzuki isnt Soft but he's far from Tough, He only looks tough because of how Soft Pettersson is and it didnt stop with Suzuki as a matter of fact Josh Anderson rode him over the boards into MTL's bench with authority to.

MTL has plenty of those types.
If we're giving up potentially 2 top 10 picks and Owen Beck i want a Touch Winger or a Power Center for 2nd C.

Thanks for the post. It doesn’t have to be Petterson, maybe they can get another star with a bit more sandpaper that becomes available?

Only if you're placing no value on top 10 unprotected picks which i find kinda weird.
I value them over always injured Elias Pettersson ... we got enough of those guys to last us a lifetime...
Savard is solid , he's just a defensive D so most Fantasy Hockey Fans dont get his value but it only exposes their lack of knowledge .

    I get people like EP
But i love Owen Beck cause he's a dick who plays mind games like Marchand or Shaw.
But he's also a solid Ambidextrous faceoff Center who likes to play mind games there too.
I'd say he's more similar to Marchand as he's not easily baited and only is willing to take a penalty if a better players going with him.
He's something we dont have and something we can use long term behind Suzuki and Dach at 3rd Center Position.
My Favorite reason though is his Chemistry with Lane Hutson on ice as someone distributing the puck to lane at high volumes like Beck can is ideal for MTL.

Those picks could both end up being top 10 so MTL could end up with the High End Winger with Size we need for our top line going forward.
What he brings we dont need in MTL as long as Dach keeps playing well and is worth investing in that is.
So maybe call us in a year, if Dach craps the bed we'll talk

Good post. Some people think mtl is giving up nothing in this trade. Either way, MTL should use some of their assets to get a star like Petterson to match Suzuki and Caufields primes. Maybe a tougher player…

I really like Owen Beck, he will be the perfect 3C
But you can’t not trade a future 3C for a superstar
    Pettersson would become MTL 1C
    Suzuki would become MTL 2C
    Dach 1RW
    Caufield 2RW
    Slafkovsky 1LW or 2LW
    Newhook 1LW or 2LW

    2 balances lines

    Slafkovsky-Pettersson-Dach
    Newhook-Suzuki-Caufield

In the process you lose your future 3C but Harris is expendable

With Pettersson, MTL are not a bottom 10 team

We have no clue what CGY will be, but they won’t be a bottom 5 team

Yes, exactly. They need to use their surplus of assets to get another star forward.

Gonna be tough at this point. Most teams have their goalie situation set, and if not they are typically looking for bargains because the cap is tight.

Pettersson is much better than Eichel and Stone were. Tkachuk was also traded for a 100 point, top 5 winger in the NHL, a top 20 RHD, and a first. That’s a lot better than what you have here. And guess what? Calgary still lost the trade. Not a single one of the pieces here even come close to getting a player of Petterssons caliber. It is completely insulting to not even offer a guy like Slafkovsky, Reinbacher, or Suzuki for a guy like Pettersson

Pettersson had 24 more hits than Suzuki last season, averaging nearly a hit per game. Not as soft as you think he is . He is also the single best player in the entire NHL at penalty differential. He is single handily putting his team on the powerplay at the highest rate out of anybody. Pettersson was also 2nd in the league among forwards in blocked shots. Do soft players sacrifice the body for their team? Tell me again how soft Pettersson is, because the Pettersson 2+ years ago is not Pettersson today

Do you think Myers 50% retained can fetch a 1st. He has consistently shown to be able to eat up 20+ minutes a night and play all situations. Of course he still wouldn’t, because he sucks.

Petey is so much better than stone and eichel you can’t even compare them not to mention eichel returned the package he did coming with a serious neck injury. Tkachuk returned a top 5 winger at the time in Huberdeau, a very good d man in weegar and a 1st an Calgary still completely lost the trade. So yes if you want Petey you’ll have to give up a ton, otherwise enjoy getting a guy like Scheifele if you only wanna give up that package.

Your offer is still garbage, you CAN’T get a star player by trading their surplus of assets

It’s really rare (NJ did it with Timo Meier)

But MTL are in no position to make this kind of trade

Petey is so much better than stone and eichel you can’t even compare them not to mention eichel returned the package he did coming with a serious neck injury. Tkachuk returned a top 5 winger at the time in Huberdeau, a very good d man in weegar and a 1st an Calgary still completely lost the trade. So yes if you want Petey you’ll have to give up a ton, otherwise enjoy getting a guy like Scheifele if you only wanna give up that package.

These are good points, maybe they do add a top young player like that, but what they will probably do is try to pull off an Eichel or Stone type trade. If that is not Petterson then that is fine, as long as it is another star. Seguin to Dallas was probably a better example than Tkachuk in terms of assets in return.

Gonna be tough at this point. Most teams have their goalie situation set, and if not they are typically looking for bargains because the cap is tight.

I was thinking in the 2024 offseason.

But Pettersson is far better than Eichel was, and didn’t have a career threatening neck injury
