Because he's an offensive blackhole on that side because he can't move the puck as easily. The blade faces the wrong way. Carolina's entire system is built on shots from the point. It's why their team High Danger chances are so low. They're WAY more talented than casuals give credit for up front, but the system they play negates it and it exploits the success of the defense getting pucks through. Notice it's something Burns, DeAngelo, Slavin, Hamilton, Faulk, Skjei... they've all done it well and they've all been successful in Carolina.

Notice how they're forwards? It's better for shooting the puck to play your offside as a winger. You're not going to find yourself shooting from between the dots as a defenseman as often, so you need to play your natural side to move the puck. Brodie on the left is actually a very skilled puck mover, but his transitional underlyings on the right are AWFUL
