My Top 20 Goalies for 23-24

Description
Note: ONLY the top 5 goalies are the elites. Everyone else on this list could rotate as high as 6 or fall out of the list. We simply don’t have a whole lot of elites in the league right now.

This is not a career achievements list. If it I was you’d see MAF and Quick. It’s also not a purely off last season list or Ullmark would top it. I’m looking over the course of the last 3 seasons. I’m looking at the following metrics:

1 Save percentage above expected

2 Percentage of unblocked shots attempts on goal

3 High danger unblocked shoot attempt percentage

4 Shots on goal faced

This data tells me who performed above expectations, who makes the big saves in this high danger areas and who’s getting peppered with shots. Also goalies have to have played at least 30 games in a season to count.

I think this looks pretty good. And the description helps - because there are a lot of guys on that second tier that can be put anywhere from like 6-20 for sure lol. The differences are negligible.

Outside of Bob I don't think there's really anything to complain about too much imo. Maybe squeeze Hart in there

I thought about Hart and in fairness he probably belongs ahead of a guy like Gustavsson who needs to have a full season with his numbers to really move up this list.

As far as Bob goes no one can go high to low quite like him but when he’s on his game he is the only goalie outside that top 5 who belongs with them. Unfortunately for him he has long down periods and he got a fat contract so people hate on him for it.

Yeah I didn’t expect him to be in the top 5 lol but he’s absolutely a top 20 goalie he puts up league average numbers on a horrible team lol

Believe me as a Pens fan I'm fine with Hart not in there haha - just kinda threw him out there as a possibility. I'm not going to fight for him lol.

I get what you're saying - we saw what Bob can do when he's on his game in the playoffs. He was amazing. I just wonder if you can say that same thing about a lot of goalies. He had a solid 21-22 season - I just think 7 seems a bit high. But this is just my opinion. Based on your description you took a deeper dive into the numbers than I have - so I admit I could be wrong. Plus your name is Literally theGoalieGuru - so who am I to argue with you haha. I would agree his contract might make some people act like he's worse than he actually is though for sure

Yeah well how long is it gonna take for Carter to have a good season again it’s been almost 4 years since he’s been good
