This still makes too much sense

Description
Seen so many Nylander deals, but somehow, this ine males the most sense for both sides....

I see pros and cons to each player in the deal, but it is more a sum of the parts.

The Leafs loose offensively in the top 6, but gain offensive depth while getting more physical in the back end but loose a bit of transition game. Overall: cap compliant and deeper.

Kraken gains offensively in the top 6, gains more a transition game from the back end while loosing the physical element. Overall: a first line that is extremely dangerous and a blueline that can feed the puck to ine of the deepest forward cores in the league.
Transactions
TOR
  1. Eberle, Jordan
  2. Oleksiak, Jamie
  3. Tolvanen, Eeli
Détails additionnels:
Eberle: a filler for Nylander in the top 6, who is still a 60 point winger. His ability to prod8ce in clutch situations is stiff of legend. Step back offensively in the top 6, but still productive. Drawback: likely a pure one and done.

Oleksiak: the centre of the deal. Solid stay-at-home D who can move bodies. An element the Leafs blueline lacks. Drawback: Brodie moves the puck better.

Tolvanen: the young piece in the deal. Solid 3rd line presence, 30-40 point producer at this time with a physical element to his game. Deepens the offense in Toronto. Drawback: can he produce those numbers playing with Kampf/Lafferty? Wennberg is simply a better offensive centre.
SEA
  1. Brodie, TJ
  2. Niemelä, Topi
  3. Nylander, William
Détails additionnels:
Nylander: clearly the best players in the deal. Yeah, I get the while extension thing, but Seattle is in a great position to meet demands. Further, a signicant upgrade on the RW..... a legit top line winger for Berniers what should be long term. Drawback: the contract

Brodie: excellent defender. Replaces Oleksiak on the blueline. Drawback: does Seattle bring him back?

Neimela: a young RD. Defensive game is well established, with offensive upside that seems untapped. Drawback: size.

Might be a pretty fair trade, though Seattle is at the cap and are now taking on 1.5m Four M NTCs might cause a problem.

Yes.... the 4 MNTCs are an issue agreed. Getting all 4 to waive would be like winning the lottery.

Nylander is by far the best player in trade. Brodie > Oleksiak imo but you could argue Tre would prefer Oleksiak’s size. Why, then, are the Leafs adding a prospect? If anything, Seattle should be adding a prospect or pick

1. Yes Nylander is the best player in the deal. Agreed.

2. Brodie is slightly better than Oleksiak, but I would argue the Leafs get better value here in that Olkesiak has term left on his deal.

3. Tolvanen is essentially the NHL ready prospect Seattle gives up. I see potential top 6 in him long term.

4. Neimela's inclusion is open to debate. I think to deal an expiring deal for one with term Francis may want something.... guven the construct of my package.

Whether that is in Nylander is open to question. But, this is more on the basis of my valuation of Tolvanen. If you see less, I can see where you are coming from 100%.

This trade is laughable. Why would the Leafs move an elite forward, excellent defence prospect close to NHL ready, and a solid top 4 defensive D man for this?

Tolvanen was just a waiver pickup last year. Maybe he didn't deserve to get waived but hard to argue he’s a top 6 prospect either…

Fun fact

Marty St. Louis bought out by the Flames. Wasn't even selected in the 2000 expanaion draft. One I am sure Flames faithful would love to have back. Tampa took a flyer. I would say that turned out ok.

Just because he didn't fit in Nashville.... AT ALL.... doesn't mean he doesn't have the game. That is my point. Tolvanen, like St. Louis.... can play.

As I have said, Oleksiak maybe a slight downgrade, but brings and element sorely lacking on the Leafs blueline with term. Term. Key phrase bud. Term..... and it's a good contract to boot. I ask - who would you rather tangle with Tkachuk? Oleksiak or Brodie? I digress.

Seems a lot of people don't like Tolvanen. That is fine. For me, he looks to round out at a fine top 6 forward who can hit can get in dirty areas..... something again, the Leafs long term lack.

Neimela is not anywhere near NHL ready. 2 years away. Even then, for me, he remains an enigma. Solid first year in the AHL granted.

To call this laughable is simply short sighted. Leafs will have a hard time meeting Nylander's demands. Oleksiak, Liligren and Timmins are just fine for me as a RD in 2024-25.

Eberle may go away, but it leaves the Leafs with serious flexibility to fill the roster out via free agency amd the Marlies. Knies likely goes into the top 6. I can see Tolvanen playing his way there.... with like $20 million to spend.

If that is the case, is it so laughable?

Yes. It's absolutely still laughable even with your "justification"
