Quoting: SomeonesOffended
Then the gm is dumb and should be fired
We don't have the cap room for Nylander long term. I don't care what you can do to squeeze him into a 20-man roster, we do not have the space for him, Bratt, and Meier. We just don't. It would mean being unable to pay
anyone even the bare minimum, and it would also mean needing to sell off even
more assets to make cap space. The improvement from Mercer to Nylander -- if there even
is one, given Mercer's rate of development, age, and positional flexibility -- is just not worth the short term benefits of having Nylander in the lineup. We can't do it, no matter what fantastical nonsense you want to believe. Even if you're sending us the 1st round pick that we could then use to pawn Palat off on someone it still doesn't make sense for our long-term cap structure. No GM is going to take the next five years of NJ's future and cripple it by selling off valuable assets (and we do not have as many of those as we used to, certainly not to spare) and pushing us into utter cap hell. Any GM who did should
absolutely be fired.
