Bedard would fetch a lot but this would be a big overpay even for a player who's projected to be the next generational player.

The Hawks are in full HYPE MODE with Bedard. Between ticket sales and merch sales there's absolutely NO package that could pry Bedard away from this team. Every FO employee including GM and all AGM's would be looking for jobs if they traded him.

I'm not a huge fan of whataboutisms but I'll do my best with this one. The Hawks as currently constructed are about three years away so trading for a guy 8 years older who is currently the best player in the league is counter to the game plan currently in place. This trade doesn't happen for a few reasons...

Edmonton would never do this trade since Bedard is still an unknown in terms of NHL success and McDavid is clearly the better player at the moment.

Chicago doesn't do this trade because their window isn't open yet so they would be wasting McDavid's prime years and sending them towards cap issues much sooner than planned.

Would I love McDavid in Chicago? Hell yeah but not at the expense of this team's future.
