I could see this working really well with Kyrou's eta

This seems very possible at that price too. Could probably bump that 3rd to a 2nd imo. Im not very high on petry but a quality defender for two years for cheap gets a little bit more

Yeah i debated making the 3rd a 2nd, but i'm honestly not sure what his value is, even at 50%

Finally, a decently fair Petry trade, but I don’t like the fact that we’re running a 21 man roster with him.

And for moronic non Habs fan the Habs would laugh you all the way to the grave. Petry Maynor be the defender he was 2 years ago but he is still a top 30-40 guy in the league. It starts with a 1st and 2nd or B prospect (with retention) don't want to pay that go pound salt!

Yeah the cap would be tight, unless they threw another mid pick to a 3rd team for double retention

Lmfao you are going to be majorly disappointed if you're expecting anything close to a 1st and a 2nd for Petry. He doesn't want to be in Montreal, they aren't going to get much for him

He already said that he will play in Montreal if a deal can't be made before the season. He never had an issue with Montreal it was the boarder restrictions and Covid testing he had issues with. Chiarot got a 1st and 3rd at the deadline, Petry has more value than Chairot did even with the deadline overpay.

Enjoy having Petry for the rest of his contract. He's not a hugely coveted asset, hell Pens had to retain a quarter and add a pick to trade him for f*cking Hoffman.

Petry at 6.25 mil was a hard to trade asset, Pens didn't take Hoffman back they took Pitlick and Montreal sent Hoffman to SJ cause Petry blocked the trade to SJ. Pens retained because Montreal forced their hand. Petry at 4.7 mil is tradeable (probably for a 2nd + 3rd ish), Petry at 2.3 mil is a high value asset. Dont believe me look past his regular stats and focus on his advanced stats. He is still the same top 4 2 way defender he always was. Plain and simply put Montreal is not in the same situation with Petry as Pittsburgh was.

HABS will enjoy paying him for the rest of his contract then. Petry isn't going to be a coveted asset, they'll basically have to take what they can get. Pens had to retain on him to acquire a worse player in Hoffman

Just because you choose to ignore these stats doesn't mean anyone else will. He's a number 5 D man at best. Even retaining 50% of his 4.75 or whatever it is, the Habs still aren't getting much

I do agree that Pens had to pay premium to make the EK trade happen. Still, it's a fact he cost them Legare+2nd to change to another cap dump without NMC and a AHL player like Pitlick. With that kind of baggage, there's no way in hell that he suddenly shifts into a positive value player that is highly coveted, to the point teams would have to pay up multiple mid-to-high picks to get him.

The fact you even used Chiarot, which is majorly considered as the worst trade to happen in past 5-10 years value-wise, as a value example earlier, proves to me that you're living in a complete fantasy land when it comes to discussing Habs player value, and that it's not even worth wasting my time here discussing it with you. You even said in another post that Monahan should, and I quote, "be easily capable of netting 50-80 points..."

I have read that Nill is interested in Petry. I can only hope he is not stupid enough to go after him, unless we get him for pennies on the dollar as a playoff strengthening, since based on current market he really isn't worth any more than that. We already have our declining 40 year old D-man to deal with on a longer term deal, I don't care for them to add another.

Ok don't like the Chairot comp, then we will use Savard. Savard without any retention and the current term likely returns a 2nd + 3rd or something similar, Petry is miles better than Chairot but with a higher cap hit (4.7 mil vs 3.5 mil) so his value is about the same maybe slightly more. Add on retention and this goes from 2nd and 3rd to a 1st + 2nd quite easily. BTW fun fact for you, Petry finished 28th in scoring among RHD even with his shortened season and his poor performance last year, that's still a top pairing D man on any team. Good luck finding one of them on a sub 2.5 mil contract for 2 years who is not on an ELC or bridge deal!

Who ignored his stats? Oh right you did! Petry finished 28th in scoring among RHD and 60th among all D men. That is literally top pairing D scoring (there are 64 top pairing D men in the NHL). Then when you look at his advanced stats it paints an even brighter picture. Corsi for percentage with the Penguins, at 50 percent, despite starting 55 percent of his draws in the defensive zone. More impressively, he had an expected goals for percentage of 54.94 and a 52.79 high danger chances for percent. Yeah that sounds like a 5th D man on any team not worth more than a 3rd! ROFLMFAO!!!

Hughes and Gorton are masters at making trades that benefit the HABS like the Petry for Matheson trade. At $2.3M for Petry for a team needing a RHD for the playoff, the return will be more than the C-R-A-P you propose
