Description
Opening Night Roster, With the potential of Price coming back just in case.

I might get killed for having Slaf in Laval, but he should be there to build some confidence. Habs won't be going for it until next year

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BUYOUT/TRADE ARMIA FOR A BAG OF ALL DRESSED CHIPS PLEASE.
Wideman is the odd man out now. Just buy him out or send him to Laval

Could also see Monahan moved at the TDL, even though I think he'll have a good year if healthy. Could bring a 1st rounder back to us if right team pushes for him perhaps

Hear me out on the Askarov proposal, Nashville fans.
Transactions
1.
MTL
ARI
  1. Allen, Jake
Détails additionnels:
Traded somewhere for a 3rd, Ride Montembeault and DeSmith for the rest of the year, also allows space for Price to come back (even though its a long shot)
2.
MTL
ARI
  1. Petry, Jeff
Détails additionnels:
Trade Deadline Move: Detroit would be an ideal location for him, close to his home, but I don't think Detroit wants him lol.

I think we get a 3rd back for him, maybe a 2nd if were lucky (long shot for a 1st), to a team that needs a RHD for a cup run.
3.
NSH
  1. DeSmith, Casey
  2. Harris, Jordan
  3. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (MIN)
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2025 (CGY)
Détails additionnels:
Hear me out: CGY's pick is top 10 protected, and Nashville is in like a half rebuild. Saros signed for 2 more years, and I see him getting the extension. He's been a top 10 goalie the last 3 seasons at least.
Nashville was also opened to trading Askarov for the #5 pick. Nashville is getting a solid young defensemen on the backend in Harris at a loaded position for the Habs, and a position of need for the Preds (at least in the future)
DeSmith is a throw in at this stage, could waive him instead.

CGY's pick is confusing as to what they can get, i think its protected up Top 10, after that I believe it can be used.

The Calgary pick isnt top10 protected. Its first overall protected. Entirely depends on Florida's performance as well. There's a litany of conditions. Probably ends up middle of the pack but there is a slim chance if both Florida and Calgary miss the dance.

Once again, Askarov is not available. He was offered in a package for the 4th or 5th overall. Trotz won't move him for a lesser package.

Thanks for the clarification lol. I feel like Florida and Calgary could both miss the playoffs, would be interesting to see that happen. I think it'll be 13-17th overall

I think they would move him for this deal. A 1st, a 3rd and a LHD.

They were willing to move him, and 2 1sts for the 5th overall at the draft per reports from LeBrun/ Seravalli

Would MTL trade Reinbacher for TB's 2025 1st, a 3rd, Kevin Lankinen, and Spencer Stastney? Of course not. Likewise, NSH isn't trading their best prospect for a collection of lesser pieces either.

Trotz tried moving him to acquire one of Will Smith or Michkov. He wanted game changers if he was going to move our future starter. Calgary likely bounces back into the playoffs now that Sutter isn't ruining that team so that pick likely becomes a mid-late first, and we don't have space for Harris on our left side.

It's not an enticing package.

EDIT: That's next years first, just saw that. makes this value worse.

I wouldn't say lesser pieces, but no I wouldn't do that. What do you think the realistic trade would be for Askarov?

Lol people think they can get a 2nd for him. I think a 3rd is what the value is, if we retain salary as well.

Price is a Santa present lol

A guy NSH was ecstatic to get at 11OA, who's value has increased since then for a protected 1st five years later, a defenseman they have no room for anytime soon (NSH already has three better options at LD with 3-5 years of term left), a not great backup goalie that - like Harris - would just be another one way contract stashed in MIL and eating up a bit of cap, and a 3rd? I'd call those lesser pieces.

A realistic trade for Askarov would be an equivalent center prospect. MTL's chance to acquire him evaporated at the draft. I honestly don't see NSH doing a one-for-one Askarov for Reinbacher trade.

You can disagree with the value of players involved. But at least try and make sense in your irrational player evals in your condescending retort.

Do you work for Nashville? Then you don't know anything beyond what everyone else knows.

Good day.

Im pretty sure they would do a Reinbacher for Askarov trade not that the Habs even consider that one. They already rejected it at the draft as the Preds wanted that pick (it was confirmed) and hearsay was that they wanted Reinbacher.

1st in 2025 - 2 drafts away at which point Askarov should be making a NHL impact. Nashville then has to take that pick and develop him. This puts them back years in terms of asset management.

3rd - low chance of having NHL impact for several years if at all.

Harris - no room on NHL roster for another dman. As it is, we are probably looking to send out a dman. Harris will not be waiver exempt for much longer. We also have 2 dmen in the AHL that are trying to push into the NHL. Doesnt really fit their needs. Maybe if he were a couple years younger or of a higher level prospect, it would make more sense.

DeSmith - immediately waived and sent to the AHL. So dead cap

The movement at the draft were to get a top end prospect in a position of need (center). Once will smith was picked, i dont know if nashville had much interest in making that trade.

Yeah, obviously MTL doesn't consider Askarov for Reinbacher - they could have had considerably more than that at the draft, but clearly Reinbacher was their guy. I just don't think NSH felt the same about the player. Poile & Trotz seemed to be going hard for the most impactful forward they could get with their top pick. ASP was still available at 15OA, and he seems like the prototypical offensive defenseman NSH has had so much success developing, yet they still went for a forward. I wonder how many Habs fans would make the rumoured Askarov, 15OA & 24OA for 5OA trade, with the benefit of hindsight? MTL could still have landed a top defenseman in ASP, plus Askarov, and another top prospect.

You come at me with "Do YoU wORk fOr NAsHvIlle?", then accuse me of being condescending? Okay, guy. At least explain what parts you're so offended by. That Harris and Desmith would be sent to the A, if NSH had them? NSH already has a better, cheaper, younger backup than DeSmith. Barring having an amazing training camp, DeSmith gets sent down. Even if he does outperform Lankinen, then NSH has to risk losing Lankinen for nothing on waivers. There's nothing for the Preds to gain by acquiring DeSmith.

Harris gets sent down, mainly due to his still having waivers exemption. NSH already has a full compliment of NHL defensemen in Josi, Barrie, McDonagh, Fabbro, Schenn, Lauzon & Carrier. Even if you feel Harris can win a #6-7 defenseman spot away from Lauzon or Carrier, his waiver status pretty much ensures Harris is the one getting demoted. Come 24-25, NSH still has the logjam at LD I mentioned in my initial post, and Harris isn't waiver exempt anymore. Neither of these players help NSH, and I think we can both agree that turning an 11OA pick NSH is still very high on into a protected 1st five years later is bad asset management for them. The rest of the package doesn't come close to making up the difference for them.

You can disagree with my opinions, but at least offer some of your own, instead of just projecting your own irrationality and condescension onto others.

I would dare say hearsay was wrong on Nashville wanting Reinbacher. Trotz has done multiple interviews where he has stated Nashville’s inability to get a franchise altering center. There were 4 possible ones at the top of the draft. Depending on where Michkov got drafted one wouldve been bumped to 5th overall where Montreal drafted Reinbacher. Target 5th overall, hope michkov goes top 4, draft whatever center is left (likely Will Smith).

Granted it is just speculation going off of team deficiencies pointed out in interviews by the GM but it does lend some insight to Trotz's thinking

Then we drafted wood who is going to get time at center in the NCAA this season per reports instead of ASP with our first pick.
