The thought and intent is fine, the Bs do well with a two way center at the helm, but Couturier is not it. He's played 29 games in 2 years and is signed at huge money until he's 36. In addition, if the 2nd from ARZ breaks the deal, there are other ways to get it other than trading your goalie of the next decade for an older backup who won't cut it.
Doing this does help the immediate future assuming Couturier plays, but it further depletes our drafting possibilities and removes the only C prospect we have with top 6 potential, making it even more difficult to build the center position from within, which is much more appealing that overspending on vets. Particularly because we can spend the same amount of cap on a younger, less frequently injured guy in the offseason next year.
