Believe it or not, Sharks don't have many RD options.

They can't lose Benning right now.

Veleno isn't much but I think Yzerman could get a draft pick for him. I think it's his $hit or get off the pot season in Detroit. He's not being waived though. He's still living off his late 1st round draft pick status.

With his giraffe long neck he might have a future in chimney sweeping.

I still think he and Pierre Engvall are giraffe brothers.

I feel like you could’ve said this about Zadina.. I doubt Veleno has any value outside of future considerations with how many teams are up against the cap and the few that have cap space probably have much better options if he doesn’t even make the Detroit roster out of camp

I still think Veleno could make a good 4C. He has good size and speed and doesn't mind throwing the body. IIRC I read an article in the Athletic where Perron was mentoring him. Trying to get him to show more confidence and believe in himself. Maybe it's more mental than physical?

You're right about team's limited cap space. GM's are bargain hunting right now.

With Zadina the effort was there but he was squeezing his stick into sawdust. I'm not expecting much from him. He's a found lottery ticket.

Larkin, Compher, Copp, Rasmussen/Kasper down the middle, not a lot of spots left for Veleno

Yeah and I really like that Kasper kid's compete level. I don't know if he'll be a star but he's going to be a big part of that Red Wings nucleus going forward.

I think Red Wings prefer Rasmussen as a winger though?

Veleno is certainly worth more than Zadina.
Whether it be a 7th, or a 4th (some say a 3rd), he gets something.

Wings I think would prefer Ras as a winger, played alot better there. Either of Copp or Compher can easily be moved to the wing. Veleno likely won't be going anywhere. The only reason we got rid of Zadina was because he asked for a trade out.

Veleno and Zadina are two different situations. Zadina asked for a trade. Veleno wants to be in Detroit. If Zadina didn't ask for a trade, Yzerman said his expectation was that he'd compete for a roster spot at training camp and be a Red Wing. Likely only being waived if he didn't make the roster. Veleno is going to make the team. Albeit likely as a 4th line player, maybe get some 3rd line minutes if he plays very well.
