Quoting: Marcsnack
He put up 31 in 61, which in an 82 game season, would be 42 points.
Määttä, by the same metric, scored 24 points while playing mostly 3rd pair on a much worse team that scored 24 fewer goals than Pittsburgh did.
Petry, one year older, would not sniff 40 points on this year's Detroit team and that is the only metric that is relevant to Steve Yzerman.
There is only one reason that you're trading Petry and that is to clear cap. Detroit is under no obligation to help you with this for free. Detroit could possibly be enticed to help you out but it has to be a deal where we are sufficiently compensated for the favour that we are doing you here.
There are considerations about imbalance between right shooters and left shooters in our defense and Petry would rectify this but it is not a big enough problem to warrant us take on a 12.5 million cap cost. Both Gostisbehere and Chiarot play the right side just as well as the left and Määttä is also an option on the right side so as a reason to make a trade the significance borders on negligible.
Chiarot for Petry is really the only option that makes sense for Detroit. It opens up a roster spot for Edvinsson or Johansson at the TDL when Ghost is traded and it shortens the wait for our right shooting prospects by a year. If you can formulate a trade around Chiarot we'll listen and if the return is good for us we may help you out here but remember that is you that is the one who wants this and we have no reason to do you any favours unless we gain something too.
