Realistically, a rookie goalie can’t be in net for 70 games. He needs a solid backup that can take 35 games and give the team a chance. Upl and Comrie are the opposite of that. Also, the Atlantic got A LOT stronger. 91 points won’t get you in the playoffs.

Well I don't agree that the atlantic got a lot stronger. Comrie and UPL went 28-20-5 btw, a 94 point pace for the backup goalies

And what are their stats again? The Atlantic got a lot stronger. Tarasenko, Chychrun, Domi, Klingberg, OEL, Compher, Newhook, Grieg, and others joined the division while not a lot of important players left.

Most of those are not impact players.

Chychrun arrived last season. Tarasenko is in, but DeBrincat is out. Greig is unproven and even if he makes it, it's no guarantee he'll be an "important" player. Domi and Klingberg are awful defensively, which cancels out most of their value. Bunting and Gustafsson offered pretty much the same thing. Ekman-Larsson will probably be a 3rd pair D if he's not completely washed. Newhook is another middle-six forward.

Chychrun didn’t play enough. Debrincat isn’t out, he changed team. Detroit is in the Atlantic. Domi = Bunting, but Klingberg > Gustafsson. OEL could be a middle pairing guy. Compher is a second liner. Newhook is a middle six forward. That is a lot of improvement. The only impactful players who left are Bergeron, O’Reilly and Colton
