Description
OTT needs to shed salary following the Tarasenko signing. WPG has trouble convincing quality free agents to sign with them so it makes sense for them to seize the opportunity to get a relatively young player with term and recoup and asset in the meantime. For a market like WPG, it has some value.

Scheifele is just a perfect fit for Boston with Bergeron confirming his retirement. Not saying he can replace Bergeron’s impact (they’re totally different players), but at least he can be a 1C to complete an offensive dynamo with Marchand and Pasta at least for a year (and they would have the cap space to sign him to an extension).

I’ve posted the Hellebuyck trade before and it got mixed reviews. 50% were saying it’s not enough for Hellebuyck, and 50% agreed it’s all they can get for him since there is just no market for him. I still think this is what they will get in return: a replacement goalie (average level), a “meh” prospect and a 1st rounder. Hellebuyck will command a huge extension and teams will be reluctant to give him such a huge extension that would start at his age 41 season.

To me, all these trades for every team’s need in terms of roster players, futures and cap space

Devils accept, but I think Hellebuyck will start the year with Winnipeg.

I don't know if Boston fans are gonna like that trade, but I also think it would be more shrewd to just offer sheet Swayman and trade Scheifele elsewhere.

Given that it’s highly unlikely to see an offer sheet, and that Boston needs a C, I think it makes sense for both teams.
The first would most likely have some kind of protection on it since it’s the 2025 one and it could be conditional to Scheifele signing an extension (didn’t specify it, but would be very logic)

You can't make conditions based on signings anymore. I also notice now that Winnipeg can't offer sheet Swayman in the 2nd round pick bracket, and I don't know that they'd give up the 1st and 3rd plus cap space to get him in the 4.3m-6.3m bracket.

You are totally right about the condition and yeah, hard pass on that offer sheet in this case

So I’m guessing getting a 24-year old starting goalie, a young depth RHD, a depth forward with term , 2 first round picks + a second (and more) for Scheifele and Hellebuyck does not garner any interest? Come on…

If we're to believe the rumors that NJ has interest in Helle then the question is whats holding up the trade cause a trade like the one suggested here seems like the obvious return the Jets would get. I'd guess it's either NJ wants to keep Vanacek, the Jets want a piece NJ is reluctant to part with or Helle's wanted contract is ridiculous and Fitz is asking himself if its even worth it. Also I doubt the Jets are willing to retain so that could be an issue too.

I’d keep Brossoit and swap vanecek with a different asset, or swap Brossy with Vans in the BOS trade and get another pick, don’t do the guy dirty like that.

I think it’s of combination of both a) the Jets want a piece NJ is reluctant to part with and b) Hellebuyck’s contract demands are ludicrous (which makes a deal more complicated than it looks like).

I thought about it but Boston doesn’t have the cap space to do something like that

BOS declines. They will be running with the Swayman and Ullmark tandem to hopefully be competitive. If by the deadline they are falling out of it, Ullmark will be on the move, not Swayman.

Nope. So, a Vezina Winnipeg goalie pulls some depth pieces, but a 24 YO unproven goalie somehow pulls a 40G, 6 time PPG 1C. How does that work?

When you're trading star, impact players you want similar or similar potential in return, not filler to pad the bottom of the lineup. Of course those offers aren't considered. Bottom of the lineup depth can be had for much cheaper.

Late firsts and bottom of the lineup depth doesn't get 2 star players, retained for an entire year.

A former vezina winner who’s now 30, potentially a rental (and/or who will likely command a 9M+ contract with too much term) does not get you the moon.

Especially when there is virtually no market for a goalie.

There are literally 2 teams that could use Hellebuyck AND afford him cap wise: NJ and BUF. Unfortunately for the jets, it affects Hellebuyck’s value big time

It all depends on Swayman’s contract. If he ends up signing North of 4M$ (which is very likely considering Samsonov’s 3.5 M$ arbitration settlement), then BOS is in trouble cap wise…and still needs a 1C…

A couple of those things are true, but exaggerating to try and make your flimsy point, doesn't help your position. No one in this thread is asking for the moon just a fair price that consists of pieces the jets need and want. Especially if you want a full year of retention. Cap space isn't free and you want the jets to retain and take back Vanacek to help Jersey with their cap for free. That doesn't happen in the real world, no one is helping your cap situation as a favour. You want help, you pay for it.

Also, you may be new to negotiations, but the initial ask is always higher than the actual contact. No one who had been paying attention to the contacts this summer expects a Hellebuyck to get over 9.

Swayman can't sign an offersheet anymore since he did player elected arbitration

I think they’re comfortable running with Zacha and Coyle as the top6 centers to start the year.

I also don’t see Swayman getting more than $4M

I guess we’ll know soon enough ! He is asking for 4.8 M$ in arbitration. But yeah they will probably start the year like this and make a move at the TDL if they’re in a good position.
