Quoting: RipNasty
If the "acceptable" returns on this site are what we can expect, there is no option but to keep Willy. Because you and others are hellbent on seeing Willy return half what he should
Im certainly not, Im one of the few who dont see the guy who ranks in the top 3 in team scoring while hes paid 65% of what they get as the issue. I dont think the guy who gets 6.9mil is the overpaid one, on a team with 3 other forwards getting 11mil. However, the fight i'd risk by daring to suggest that Matthews or Marner should be dealt instead isn;t worth it.
In a cap world and based on the historical results, I do believe the 4 forward/50% of the cap hasn;t worked, and something has to be done, but dont get me wrong I'm not of the dump nylander group.
Nylander should not be the one to go, but too many Leaf fans are decided to argue with. I think Nylander has great value, but that value is now effected by the moves other teams have made. (And while they probably did) If the decision is to move nylander, Certainly before UFA, I would have talked to COL, VGS, all the main contenders to do that deal, IF IT NEEDED TO. But alot of those teams have plundered the UFA pool and filled their holes.
Problem is most contenders are now capped and would have to move salaries as TOR wouldn't want them, and most bottom dwellers/rebuilders are hesitant to trade futures/young players for a UFA, and TOR: full of UFAs, certainly cant move a nylander without a suitable replacement, and cant take back a salary.
Never said Nylander should be the one to go OR that he doesn;t have value. Im not hell bent on trading him at half his value, I did say his value is effected by the pool of suitors at this current moment, and therefore you probably dont move him unless you get that value
