As a Sabres fan,
I’m not opposed to either deal

Looks like a couple of fairly harmless trades, although after their free agency additions, I kind of wonder if Vancouver wouldn't prefer to get a future asset for Beauvillier if they can't re-sign him

We would need a p ick added. Both teams have surpluses, but Ilya is an overpaid bottom pair Dman and Beau is a slightly overpaid middle six winger. While I know the market for wingers is bad, I don't think there's a question about the skill difference. Either add a 3rd or swap the dman back to Jokiharju and we may tack on a pick (imo Beau ~ in value to a 2nd)

Beauvillier is not overpaid at all, not after moving to Vancouver at least

Pretty sure Van would rather just swap beauvillier for tanev and cut Buffalo out of both deals completely

Both VAN and CGY need to move out some cap

Beauvillier holds a lot more value than Lyubushkin. A 3rd or any of the good Sabres prospects that probably won’t ever get a chance to reach the main team will do the job.

No interest in beauvillier. Like the tanev idea though

I don’t mind the Beauvillier trade
He’s not great or anything, but he is a solid Vet who can- at the very least- be of use while Quinn is hurt
Plus, more injuries are bound to happen
And the Sabres don’t need to be rushing young talent into the lineup at his point
The way i see it, our goals have started to shift
Of course, developing our youth is still important- BUT-
we are also trying to WIN now too

If we can get some decent depth at forward,
and all we have to give up is Lyubushkin,
I think that makes sense

If he was signed on the open market he would probably be getting around 3-3.5m. He's over market value imo. But regardless, the degree of overpay is less than Ilya's

No, Beauvillier would get about what he's paid right now if he hit the open market. Right now, he might as well bet on himself, that's why he's still a pending UFA

A lot of better players just received a lot less this FA. Either you're a bit too influenced by bias, or are thinking teams are going to buy into his small sample size with us. Most likely I think it comes down to fans forgetting how much less wingers are valued than centers and dmen....

I would say he would get the Kerfoot contract on open market. Nobody's giving him 4m off that small sample size.... though he has a year to prove otherwise. Not a debate worth having since I'm a Canucks fan that tries really hard to be as unbiased as possible, and I won't be convinced that he's a 4m player because I know no other fanbase would willingly sign him to 4m+. Regardless I feel strongly that his value is a 2nd... no more, no less.

A lot of FA's got paid more than what their market originally dictated due to a weak free agent class, trumping even the flat cap environment, which everybody knows is only going to be in effect for one more season. Beauvillier is definitely a 4M player with how he played in Vancouver, but maybe he wasn't that towards the end of his tenure on Long Island

I agree that he had 33 good games that over the course of a whole season would probably warrant a higher contract, but my point is that his sample size in vancouver is too small for other teams to take notice enough to open up their pockets. Full season playing like that? Sure. But 33 games when you have a history of being mediocre over the last while is enough to get you a prove it deal on the short term or get passed over.

Because of this, I don't see anyone viewing him as a bang for your buck player. At this very moment, he is still an overpaid player.

Okay fine, but don't be surprised if come the start of that season that it changes on a dime. That also happens to rhyme
