Meh. The Canucks are a mess, but they were still over .500. The Central is clearly the weaker division.

Central has higher upside IMO...

Avs>GK
Stars>Oilers
Wild>Kings
Jets

And the Hawks just got Bedard with the Yotes looking to be better than the Ducks

What’s the deal? 😂 now you defend the wings too? Hope that Subaru is electric because you’re driving all over North America defending fans from us 😅. Maybe misery loves company

I'm just pointing out the facts. Now tell me, what have the Leafs done to make other people truly believe they are a cup contender? What have the Leafs done to prove that they are a succesful team?

The Canucks on the ice are just medicore... the Canucks are off the ice are an absolute disaster

Yeah, it's too bad. Beautiful city, bad management (both the city and the team). I've got lots of friends and family there and go there frequently, and have enjoyed every trip. But their hockey team is a mess.

The Canucks were a fluke bc they didn't make it to the conference finals until that one year. Then, they went back to losing in RD 1 and missing the playoffs until the bubble year, where they lost in RD 2... Haven't made the playoffs since

So every single cap finalist or cup winner is a fluke because they weren't a conference finalist the previous season? That makes no sense. Now tell me, what have the Leafs done that absolutely trumps the Canucks success

I think it was a few leafs fans that got really upset about the post and a couple other fan bases made tongue in cheek comments but were nowhere near as upset as you guys. I’m not really sure why these types of things irritate you and some of your louder leafs buddies on here. Of course the dude who posted this is gonna pick the canes to win, they’re a top 5-8 team and any of those teams have a pretty even shot at winning. Typically it comes down to which of those teams gets hot at the right time and stays healthy. Look at Florida last year, they made the run but were beat up by the time they got Vegas and ran out of gas.

Canes got swept and that sucked. Games were close but a sweep is a sweep. They made some strong adds so far and should be in a good position again this year. Just like Avs knights stars leafs devils oilers and a couple others. Idk why this turned into such a pissing match with various teams who’ve come up short in recent and/or longer history. This isn’t surprising though when you look at the folks behind each side.

These things take on a life of their own - no rhyme or reason - but it’s all in good fun. We’re all hockey fans, just bored during off season so a little banter is fun. Not sure where you are based - but it’s mostly a Canadian thing; lots of fans of other teams (Canada or USA teams) up here love to take shots at the Leafs. Comes with the territory because we are loud and arrogant and the riches and most popular have yet to meet expectations so 🤷🏻 (like the Yankees under bulky Martin or cowboys now). Bad enough that bottom feeders like wings and Canucks are taking shots, but if a habs or Sens had piled on - would have gotten personal 😅

Yeah, in this very thread they talk about the Pacific being the weakest division in hockey... they only division that had 4 100 point teams and the division that produced the Cup winner. And Vegas openly admitted that their toughest series was against Edmonton... another Pacific division team.

Delusional.

But wait, that doesn't fit their narrative!!!

It's that they didn't do anything besides that before and after the finals run... Leafs have won the cup... and had multiple dynasties (only team to do so) long ago but still. In the records books, the Leafs sit at 13 cups... 13 more than Vancouver

Yeah, a tougher division is a lot more spread out, not having 4 teams beat up on the Ducks, Sharks and Canucks

Canucks were not even a bottom 10 team, and finished with a winning record

Number of teams with a record of below 0.500

Atlantic: 2
Metro: 3
Central: 3
Pacific: 2

That argument is getting old now

I think the east is a lot more top heavy (CAR,NJD,TOR) and the west is a less top heavy

Canucks are a very polarizing team. They are either very good, or very bad. This actually balances out to having a mediocre record. Canucks with Hughes on the ice vs Hughes on the bench are basically 2 different teams

If I had posted a playoff prediction showing the maple leafs winning the Stanley cup, fair point and fair question. But I didn’t, the canes fan did. The fan of the same team that just got swept by the team we lost to (which was not a sweep). So I think you’re asking the wrong person. Do I think the leafs are a good team - absolutely. Do they have a chance - absolutely. Am I predicting them to win - no, not until Matthews & Marner can become the best players in a series which has yet to happen consistently. Arguably Matthews was best player in series vs Tampa

I didn't see Vegas beating the Ducks, Sharks or Hawks in their Cup run. I did see them beating Florida in the SCF. You know. The best team in the mighty East? Oh yeah I forgot. Playoffs are random and the best team rarely wins. #Leafs

Goalied. Injuries. Refs. Kerry Fraser. Something something...

I think the problem with the way the Leafs is the way they've structured their cap in that your stars really have to carry the load for you guys to succeed.

We'll see how this year turns out, but the Pacific was clearly the better division last year. The top 12 teams in the conference were, in order:

Vegas - P
Edmonton - P
Colorado - C
Dallas - C
LA - P
Minnesota - C
Seattle - P
Winnipeg - C
Calgary - P
Nashville - C
Vancouver - P
St. Louis - C

IMO Minnesota, Winnipeg and Nashville are all trending downward, while I could see Calgary and St. Louis rebounding.

The Canucks were 11th... Only bc they went on a 10-3-2 streak at the end of the year to push out of the bottom 5 (bc everybody were resting guys to tank record/rest for playoffs)

Multiple dynasties when you could count the number of teams in the league on 2 hands. Also if you want to get technical, Vancouver does have a Stanley Cup
