Anderson trade isn’t terrible. Wahlstrom hasn’t really shown much of anything yet

I’m a huge Islanders fan. Reiterating the Description: “ I just want the team to keep JPG and Wahlly but an exercise on shaking things up for the sake of change.”

Just thinking of how things could change given the reports about Pageau and Wahlstrom having been offered for DeBrincat.

Ideal for me is a third line of Holmstrom-Pageau-Wahlstrom, but who knows by opening night who’s on the team.

JPG has more value then what you are getting back.

Are you kidding me with the Anderson deal? Wally, a 1st and a 4th....forget Johnston.....Montreal can't give him (Anderson) away. He's not worth a 3rd along. Talk about a player with a contract not worth it...Anderson is the poster boy for that. NO THANK YOU.

I understand trying to shake things up. But Anderson is not it! and if I'm moving JPG, it's to package him for something worth while.

It's a horrible deal......Montreal can't move Anderson and that contract for ten cents on the dollar....

Glad to see the Islanders/Habs split on this because as fans it is natural for us to overrate our own players! You're never going to get both sides in full agreement on these things. Anderson is the better player right now (if healthy), and Wahlstrom could be better, but, if he lives up to his potential, that would come at a higher cap hit than $2.75M over the next 4 seasons. Best case scenario from Wahlstrom's perspective is taking something in the 2x$1-1.5M range for a bridge deal then the sky's the limit. Does he have a DeBrincat-like breakout? He could get pricey, and that's fine, but this trade is not just "Josh Anderson for Oliver Wahlstrom." It's trading uncertainty (Wahlstrom) for a middle-six lock (Anderson) at a reasonable cap hit. And that costs something from an Islanders perspective. From a Habs perspective, Wahlstrom better fits the rebuild timeline.

I'll also just say again, I wouldn't like this trade as an Islanders fan but I'd be intrigued by it.

We need 2,7m for what. We have space to sign our rfa and no ufa want to come to Montreal. Better keep those who want to be in Montreal

Dach and Guhle are the only ones who need to be paid in the next 4 years. Allen, Hoffman, Armia, Dvorak and Savard money can cover those 2 easily

The problem with Josh Anderson is his term. What you get out of him is fine at a $3-3.5M AAV, but a little less than what you want out of a $5.5M cap hit. The fact that any sort of retention would tie up one of Montreal's 3 slots for the next 4 years just pushes his price into an area where he's not going to be able to live up to the trade.

Put it this way: Last season, Josh Anderson scored at a 25-13-38/82 GP pace. Wahlstrom scored at a 16-21-37/82 GP pace before getting hurt. On the physical side, Wahlstrom had 50 hits in his 35 GP (1.4/game) while Anderson had 139 in his 69 (2.0). Do you really think an extra point of production over an entire season, plus an extra hit every other game, is worth the acquisition cost here? Most people would say no, but since you're asking the Habs to eat 4x$2.75M to make Anderson's contract closer to real market value, you have to pony up that 1st.

Appreciate thinking outside the box, but this is just a rough one for the Isles.
