They do... Goaltending and defense are weaknesses on the team (The Hurricanes series proved this)... the next Hellebuyck contract is going to be painful for whatever team signs him

Hellebuyck didn't do much better in the playoffs either. Schmid can onyl really improve and if Vanecek can find his groove they have it. They won't sell the house for one year of Helle.

I mean you are not wrong but they do need to fix the position. Vanecek isn't a very good playoff goalie and Schmid might improve but he looked shaky in the Carolina series. I agree they probably won't sell the house for one year but I'm not sold on their current tandem as being conducive to post-season success

Not as worried about Hughes and Nemec as I am about Bahl and Miller. Bahl developed a lot last year and if he keeps the trajectory, we should be okay.

Hughes is already, we've seen it. Nemec will be.
Think of it like this, (not this yr, expecting a dip) but Hughes has to better than Graves, and Nemec has to be better than most recent Sevs.

Canes blueline is as good as they get. But I think what really did us in was defensive play of forwards and the discipline standing up our attack at blue line. A riddle we never did solve.

(And Martinook turning into Mister Svechnikov for a series).

I think you guys fell into the trap of the Hurricane's style of game... they made you guys just uncomfortable enough that they weren't able to effectively play. It also didn't help that the Staal line shut down your top line during the three games in Raleigh

I think they should do it, but keep him as a rental, let him walk at the end of the year.

This price is way too steep, I don’t think it cost all that, they can get it done for less

if he wants 8-9M no thanks, hes great but they should not spend that on a goalie that old, having the the future cap flexibility is more valuable.

Maybe they can snag a goalie later if an opportunity comes up later, the window is still opening its not time to empty the tank here.
