I’d figure that you guys have Coghlan at the 3RD spot no? wouldn’t that push Chatfield to the odd man out? Or am I forgetting about some body. As for Ty Smith. He still has potential and I believe that he could develop well for the Hurricanes. Picks could be added to either side to make the deal more fair.

Chatfield was in like Flynn this year. It was Coughlan who was the odd man out. You're caught up now.

I want to give Coe another season before giving up on him. I can imagine for a big guy like him he was able to rely on his size in Juniors but it wasn't a factor is the AHL. He has a similar skill set as Tage Thompson so I don't want to give up just yet. Especially for that return lol

Some team might give you a pick for DeSmith but it won't be the Hawks.

Chicago declines. No need for DeSmith.

Who’s their backup? I think it’s Soderblom or Stauber not 100% sure. Either way Desmith is better than both. Solid backup goalie at a cheap AAV. Why not.

Soderblom. They don't need a better backup. They aren't trying to win.

O’Connor is a solid bottom-6 forward who did great for Team USA. He’s a power forward who can work in the corners and is young. Nylander is a guy who never got a shot at the NHL with the Penguins but I believe could be valuable to a rebuilding team like San Jose. He could get ice time there and surprise some people and he’s 25. I understand your point on Coe and I threw in the pick cus that’s what I saw as fair. There is some bias on my side as a Penguins fan so you can add picks on either side to make it fair.

Chatfield has really grown over this past year and is a much better fit for Carolina

They have 4 goalies under contract in Mrazek, Soderblom, Stauber and Commesso. And 4 positions to play them 2 NHL, 2 AHL. They don't need Desmith.

Next season after Mrazek is gone and based on Soderblom's play they will probably be in the market for a 1A/B or backup goalie.

So Smith gets to continue rotting in the AHL since he likely doesn’t get a chance with the Canes, assuming this trade gets made. Yeah, Canes will just keep Chatfield.

Hawks need to see what they have in Soderblom. He's shown all he needed to in the AHL. Rebuilding teams need to play their young guys at some point.
