The worse thing about Toronto signing Domi and Bertuzzi is that it puts them in a serious cap crunch so now we have lots of Leaf fans all thinking that every other NHL team must help them get out of the mess with lopsided trades.

There’s lot of questionable trade proposals from other team’s fans too, so ‘pump the brakes’ on Leaf bashing. But I agree - gotta think Tre has something cooking, otherwise FA signings (especially Klingberg) don’t make a ton of sense given cap situation. But nothing is happening right now because so few teams have cap space; hope bettman & owners are happy - they’ve created the worst salary situation in pro sports.

Most trades will likely have to involve salary in = salary out, or close to it. Tre is also dealing from a point of weakness because he has to do something, and all other teams know it. Not only does he have to get under the cap, but he also has to improve the defensive core. This may sound contradictive, but Toronto will likely have to make a trade they will probably not "win" in order to make their overall team better. That will likely involve trading Nylander for some type of top 4 defensive defenseman.
