You guys are already on LTIR, it's only 1 year of Murray and you're definitely not going to compete this year lol. Basically a free pick, if you guys don't take it someone else will.

Rumour has it that the Leafs are offering Robertson to a team willing to take Murray. IMO Robertson is worth a lot more than a late 3rd rounder. Cap only went up 1 mill this year, teams aren’t going to help the Leafs out of the goodness of their hearts.

1) Montreal wants to avoid off-season LTIR so they can accrue cap space. They can sign Newhook and do that right now, but if they're adding salary then they can't.
2) Montreal doesn't have space for Murray on the roster. They probably don't even want him in the AHL.
3) Even a generous assessment of the value of eating Murray's contract right now is a 2nd. And given the actual salary commitment, it may be a 1st.
