Hanfin and Backlund makes sense. But it would make the cap issues worse for the Leafs. They would need Calgary to retain on 1 on the players and the Leafs would need to add another young player or draft pick(s) to do this. The question is will either team do it if they cannot get the core players (Hanifin and Nylander) to extend. It would be wise for both teams to get assets they can control for these important assets.

Yeah if it's Backlund and Hanifin Calgary could retain 50% on one of them.

I think Toronto is the one team in Canada Hanifin might sign with. It's the biggest city in Canada, one of the biggest hockey markets in the league, right on the border and not too far from Boston where Hanifin is from.

Willy is a bigger question. Calgary would have to pay him whatever he wants plus he'd probably only sign if he's a really good fit with the Flames and the team does well next year.

If Nylander demands 10M/y, it'll be just Hanifin... if that.

Idk bro, only Dman that should be leaving for sure is Hanifin. Weegs and Ras def wont leave, and Z and Tanny should stay hopefully. But maybe Tanevs age and injury history lowers his value for some ppl, but he's important to the team
