Unfortunately I don't think there's a scenario for the Caps to get Nylander. The only possible way IMO would be to use Wilson, which is a) something that Caps are adamant they don't want to do, and b) might not even be ideal for the Leafs right now after the Bertuzzi and Domi signings. Nylander's play style is probably valued quite heavily in their top six after those moves and would be after a similar play-driving, puck dominant winger.

Why not just wait till the offseason and try to sign him for free? you are essentially trading a ton for a guy that wants to be overpaid... he wants 10m+ / year. Capitals are in a retool and cant afford to dump those assets just to turn around and overpay a player. you need ELC if you are going to overpay players

I don't think that the Caps are rebuilding, I am confident they will be top 3 in the metro even with the current lineup. Last season was an anomaly due to injuries and a hatred to the coach. Healthy players, free flying system, book it.

That joke of an offer doesn't get you William Nyalnder, plus i doubt he wants to waste his time on an aging team that's more or less heading for a major rebuild in the next 3-4 years.

Who’s falling out of metro? I think caps can sneak into that 8 seed wc but there seems to be a pretty sizable gap between devils/canes, little space then rags, then decent chunk of space before you get to isles pens caps

Buddy .... our best player is 37 years old... next closest player is who? Strome? Wilson? it time to retool or rebuild. Getting Nylander does absolutely for us when we are dumping useful assets. Miro looks like a stud.. i would like to build around a young core. maybe take a crack at getting Demidov.

id say its extremely optimistic to assume top 3. Capitals would need Backstrom and Kuzy to return to 70p form while having Mantha become a 50+ point guy.

rumor is hes asking for 10+ million. He's a great player but it remains to be seen what hes able to do when he needs to be "the guy" and carry a line. Debrincat went to Sens and had a sizable drop playing away from Kane. Timo QO would have been 9m... hard to work down drastically from that.

His opening number may have been 10 but it's a negotiation he knows he's going to have to come down. As for Meier, his QO was 10.

imo i dont see him coming down at all... some team will 100% pay him. i dont think they should trade him until they 100% have matthews signed. Maybe he'll come down for the Leafs

He wants to stay in TO all this drama is just speculation and nonsense. If he has to drop his ask into the 9's to stay he absolutely will. All the leafs stars want to stay in TO.
