I see... I don't dislike Olofsson at all, I would take him as part of the return for DeBrincat but there's just not in the same tiers. For DeBrincat, it's either you need a top line scorer or don't. The "talk" is that he had a down year and he's not that good away from Kane but the reality is he only had 12 pts less than his career high playing with a rookie center (who missed the whole season in 21-22) and another guy who had his own problems (major injury, 2018 WJC attention). He would have been easily PPG if he had the chance to play with Stutzle and Giroux instead of Tkachuk.
Some will also point out to his +/- but don't understand that Ottawa is a mess of a hockey system, coaching just can't get them to play 2-way. It's either they score a lot and get scored a lot or they focus on defense and don't score enough. Only top notch players defensively like Giroux, Norris, Sanderson, Greig and Brannstrom won't be affected too much by coaching. Pinto will get there but he was a rookie coming back from a full season missed and put in a role he was not ready for. Players like DeBrincat and Batherson can be adequate defensively in the right system but in Ottawa's mess, they won't. The year before, Batherson was in the + because he had Norris as his center. Norris missed the full season so ADB didn't have that chance
No problem it's your ACGM and you can talk about what you want but just wanted to note that referring to DeBrincat as a "27 goal winger" is not going to help paint a clear picture of the reality. You know who else just had 27 goals? Pierre-Luc Dubois. I'm not saying ADB will return as much but GMs usually look at a much bigger picture than fans. And look at Anthony Duclair, 31 goals in 2021-22... Just traded for a 4th liner and a pick. Why? Because there's a whole context to it.
And these contexts is how I personally try to gauge a realistic value on players, I go much farther than name recognition. That's how I know that PLD > DeBrincat >> Olofsson > Duclair in terms of value
Here’s the thing with DeBrincat….
Is he good? YES
Did he have a down year with u guys? Also, YES
So there’s good & bad there affecting his potential trade value
BUT
If a team does wanna trade for him, then they’re obviously betting the down year was a fluke
Teams know they’ll still have to “pay up” to a degree if they want him
This issue (as i see it) is,
will he sign a long term deal with the team that acquired him?
And how big & long will that deal have to be?
Him not being signed is what’s gonna prevent u guys from getting “top value” for him,
bc teams won’t wanna give up high end pieces for a guy who is a question mark for them going forward
