In all honesty, I did not forsee this crazy cap situation being this bad. He has been between 1a starter and adequate back up for 4 of the last 6 years (his last year in Pittsburgh and first year in Ottawa were bad). He's still shy of 30 and was excellent (as Pens fans know better than anyone else) in his early 20s.

I figured a rebuilding team with no good goalie would be willing to give him a shot either with some retention or a bit of help (like a 3rd), but between his health issues making him essentially unreliable and this crazy tight cap situation it is looking like it will be more expensive to dump him.

If duchene is being bought out, meaning that team pays to get rid if him, why do you think he is worth $3.85M x 3 years?

I figure he's worth less than 4.5*3 as I figure Nashville offered him 50% retained and no one took it.
