Very bad trade for the Leafs. I think the Leafs want to get younger in a Nylander trade. Also, Treliving wants to reshape the defense so Nylander could be traded for a young defenceman.

Panarin for 3 years at 2M cheaper isn't really worth it. The Leafs should be trying to expand their window or keep it the same as to if they were to re-signing Nylander.

Retaining like that will cost alot

Also, nylander is better than panarin

If we trade Panarin I would rather get two or three players for the cost of his cap. Not one. It defeats the purpose of moving him.

Also if they do trade Nylander for a forward it will be a guy who stands in front of the net causing havoc and can win the corner battles, also if necessary stickup for teammates. Panarin does none of these things.

Uh you might want to take a look at stats sir...

I know his stats well, he's a superstar still, but he's a 31-yo playmaker with 3-years left. Tavares is 32 and has 2 years left, Matthews is reported going to sign a 3-5 year deal. Marnwr has 2-years left but I imagine they can keep him a Leaf for life. They would basically be boxing themselves into another small playoff window.
