We aren’t interested in trading Franky V since he just exceeded expectations and retaining on him for a fuuuuture 1st doesn’t feel like the move right now especially when it comes to guys who just signed as free agents — wouldn’t look good for future FA signings

ur not hitting on anything even cloooooose to marner with those late 1sts from toronto and tampa get real. make the chicago one top-10 protected or whatever and you'd have to be stupid to turn down this deal

LMAO so Chicago should pick up a 2 year rental with Marner when they aren't competing for 3+ years while giving up valuable draft capital and a 1st line defender....really sound logic you've got going for you.

Seth Jones is more valuable leading our blue line for the young kids long-term then Marner is short term hands down. Even if we flipped Marner at the TDL, despite having to contest with his MMC, we aren't getting (3) late 1st round picks...ZERO chance , not to mention having to take on a cap dump and giving up a 1st line defenseman (overpaid or not) in the process.

This is a hands down bad idea for a rebuilding team "you'd have to be stupid" to do this as the Hawks.

these comments really show the lack of critical thinking when it comes to first round picks on this sub. you really think those two laaate firsts + the chicago one which is lets say top-10 protected is ever gonna amount to what marner brings? he's one of the best playmakers in the league, perfect match for bedard, basically p kane reincarnate and ur turning it down over 3 late firsts

what makes you think marner wouldn't wanna re-sign in chicago? it's a popular destination that just got even more desirable with bedard. marner is still so young and has probably just under a decade left at the top level, if you're not competing within that window then you've got massive issues

What makes you think the hawks are going to gamble on the POSSIBILITY that Marner wants to re-sign versus hanging on to Jones and 3 1st round picks and not having to take on a cap dump?

Further, they have to pay big money to both Bedard and Korchinski within a year of Marner wanting something stupid in terms of cap hits...we don't want the problem the Leafs are in.

Terrible asset management to take that gamble

big money to bedard and korchinski who have played a grand total of 0 mins in the league. bedard sure but if you think korchinski is gonna command "big money" in two years time then i would just like to ask how long its been since chicago developed a defenseman? so lets not count our chickens before they hatch here

you'll pay $8m for athanasiou and foligno but not $10m for marner... smh my head

You gotta be stupid to think this deal is actually good for the hawks. They are rebuilding, rebuilding teams do give up three valuable picks plus their top defensemen for a rental. And it doesn’t matter if the hawks think they would be able to resign marner or not, You pay for what you get. Players without extensions in place return less

"within a year of Marner". Yes, in 3 years from Korchinski and Bedard starting this year. And yes, Korchinski is a top 3 defensive prospect not in the pros yet hands down as rated by all the pros. If he were drafted this year, he'd be the top defensive prospect. Then you have a plethora of other prospects, Vlasic, Reichel, Roos, Nazar, Dach, Philips, Soderblom, etc. etc. The Hawks have a pretty good prospect pool that's about to get even better tomorrow so no, they have no use for a guy that will want $14M in 2 years in exchange for (3) 1st round picks, Jones and taking on a cap dump.

fair. would probably reshuffle this and add a 2nd or a decent prospect to that trade to get it done tbh

tbh for carlo i'm not doing a first + lily + niemela, especially knowing boston are so tight to the cap. i just figured lily would be the more appealing player since he's nhl-calibre and is signed super cheap
