I don't think anyone is paying this price for a 28 yr old with only one yr left on his deal. Even if you get an extension, the back-end of his contract will likely be a burden. If you swap the STL pick for the Stars pick, I still think it is too much

That's what you think but you're wrong. Lindholm isn't much older than Horvat he's a better player plus there are always teams looking to upgrade at center and willing to pay for it. In additon if Lindholm is traded it's a weak year for available centers so he should fetch a very good return. This year there's Lindholm and PLD but after that O'Reilly might be the next best center available.

To pay this much an extension would be required but with that extension there are probably teams that would pay more. Columbus for example who desperately need a real 1st line center and would love to reunite Lindholm with little johnny.

True, the Blues would need to move a defenseman first and that won't be easy to do with so many older defenseman signed long term with large cap hits and NM/NT clauses. Krug already declined to waive for a trade they had in the works for Kevin Hayes.

Yeah and if we move Parayko/Faulk we would need a replacement for them or we rebuild. Our defense is already a weakness and moving either Parayko or Faulk makes it even more of a weakness. Therefore Lindholm would really not be a need for us. Lindholm and the blues are just a bad fit for each other

Good discussion you brought up some great points. I never really thought about if this would be a fit for the Blues or not I simply objected to another poster's comment that it was too high a price for a 1st line Selke caliber 2 way center.

I mentioned Columbus as a good fit for Lindholm but Boston might be an even better fit. Lindholm would be an ideal replacement for Bergeron and he fits the age of Pasternak and other core players the Bruins will have left after Bergeron and Krejki retire. Boston probably doesn't have the assets to get it done but those aren't the only teams that would be bidding on Lindholm if he does become available either.
