Seems like Philly and the Caps, both, are trying to trade up and draft Michkov. Just being in the USA has made Matvei a more viable target. Whether they believe he drops or not is irrelevant as you guarantee the player. A lot can change and quickly. Shane Wright was the guaranteed number 1 pick til 2 days before the draft. All the chatter in MTL was drafting Wright 1st overall for months.

If Michkov and Leonard are available at 7 and 8 I HIGHLY doubt Philly passes up Leonard. A lot of teams are “trading up” but from what I’ve read it’s all hype and that a ton of scouts have already warned teams about Michkov

Michkov is the 2nd beta player in this draft. That being said there is no guarantee that he makes it here during Ovechkins window / that the Capitals need to draft him. Guys like Leonard Benson Barlow and DD will be available. If I’m the Capitals of Michkov is gone I would trade back in the draft. It’s such a deep draft that the Michkov risk might not be worth taking. Benson could easily become Point 2.0. Barlow shows a ton of M Tkachuk similarities in juniors. DD will likely be the best center available from 5-10. There are also 3 really good dmen available in the top 15. Again risk vs reward. I wouldnt give up Protas or an additional first when there is so much great talent in this draft.

Oh I completely agree. This trade proposal is the dumbest thing on this site today. Capitals either get Michkov Benson Leonard or one of the RSD. I wouldnt waste a single asset on moving up. Michkov is WAY TOO risky for any team to risk. Ovechkin has a ton of juice in the KHL and other teams like Philly Habs…etc can’t afford to miss on a pick that high in this draft.
