I think any deal would have to come with a reasonable extension. At the end of his current deal, Hellebuyck will be 31 years old. Realistically for a goalie his age, the max term he should be receiving is 5 years at a dollar amount between 7-8m. If Hellebuyck wouldn’t be willing to come to those terms, then the Devils shouldn’t get involved. I would go nowhere near max term or 9+m per year

Yeah, I think he'll find that the market doesn't support $9+ and end up with a more reasonable contract.

Absolutely not on Sharangovich or Clarke playing top 6. Palat is best deployed on the third line.

As much as I’m rooting for Holtz to succeed, what has he done to justify a top 6 role? His draft slot? If getting a franchise goalie costed us Holtz, you have to pull the trigger. For what it’s worth, without a Hellebuyck trade my lineup would be the following:

Meier- Hischier- Mercer
Bratt- Hughes- Holtz
Palat- Haula- Clarke
Foote- McLeod- Bastian

He’s performed at a PPG level when given a top 6 role in Utica. We put him on the 4th line after he was scoring on a line with Jack in the preseason. The coaching staff needs to put the kid where he can succeed; not playing with McLeod and Wood playing 9 minutes a night. I do not trade him for a 30 year old goalie. Not a shot.
