Respectfully, I haven’t heard a single report anywhere outside of random TBL fans on CapFriendly that would suggest NJ would remotely consider trading Bahl for Colton. Not knocking you at all Zibby, just seeing it spoken about like fact on this thread in addition to others.
The Colton being moved stuff has a little bit of smoke, Friedman has openly wondered if TBL is going to trade him. He is also on THW trade list (less significant). Not much but its something I guess. The NJ connection comes from one real throwaway tidbit in an interview with Ryan Novozinsky (NJ.com) where Colton said last summer that he grew up a Devils fan and it would be cool to wear the jersey one day. Again, not much, but “something”?
“Bahl for Colton” on the other hand is basically made up out of thin air haha. If anyone has an actual report with that information please pass along. Bahl was deployed as a top 4 defenseman for NJ during most of the playoff run this year. He will be on a cheap deal with team control the next few years. With Ryan Graves and Damon Severson leaving, NJ’s D core is looking extremely young and non-physical. When one of Luke Hughes, Dougie Hamilton, and Simon Nemec are on the ice for pretty much every minute of every game, a presence like Bahl is very necessary. Not to mention NJ has nothinggg coming down the pipeline with left handed D. Could NJ use a player like Colton on a third line? Sure. Would it be a fun story? Absolutely. But they NEED Kevin Bahl. It is a non starter.
Totally understand why Tampa fans would want him, just like I can understand why they dont have interest in a lot of the players us Devils fans mock in Colton trades like Boqvist, Sharangovich, picks. Thats all fine, thats what we do around here, share our opinions and yell at eachother about how wrong they are lol. Just want to clarify that the “Colton starts with Bahl” thing is very much a fan opinion, not an actual report, cause I’ve seen it presented like its a fact recently.
