This seems to be the rallying cry of teams with crappy goaltenders. While I agree you can find a goaltender on the cheap, that’s also the path that has led to some of the worst contracts in the NHL.

I don’t view a second round pick NEXT year and a decent defensive prospect as a remote overpay.

Ully could go for a lot more at the TDL when goalie-needy teams swing and miss on this FA class. There are a lot of 1Bs, but very few 1As available.

In terms of player order to clear cap space

1. Mike Reilly
2. Derek Forbort
3. Matt Grzelcyk
4. Trent Frederic

My assumption is all but Reilly should be tradable, though you may take a value hit on 3 and 4.

My assumption is the cap overage can be managed by combinations of moves that include those 4 and don’t have to include Ullmark or Hall. It could if you want to sign Bertuzzi, but I have some concerns about the length of that contract
